I try to intersperse nonfiction in between all the fiction I read. Problem is most of the nonfiction I read is depressing.

Le Guin's The Dispossessed, the amatonormativity brought the experience down for me... A personal problem, I suppose... I hear the Left Hand of Darkness is kind of the opposite in that regard so maybe I'd enjoy reading that next.

Japan has a spotty history with this sort of thing, which is I think one of the reasons I enjoy seeing a positive version of it in Japanese media.

I quite like the archetype of effeminate men who are are respected as badasses instead of treated like jokes, like Oren Pierre Alfonzo from Kamen Rider Gaim and Sylvando (Sylvie) from Dragon Quest XI. (Although Gaim did have a few moments that leaned into joke-y territory)

This is a shot in the dark but I remember reading about a tweakable transparent fediverse algorithm? Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link to that?

The Indie Game Awards took place on December 18, and, as many could assume, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the awards for Game of the Year and Debut Game. However, things have changed and The Indie Game Awards are making a big decision to strip the Clair Obscur and developer Sandfall Interactive of their awards over the use of gen AI in the game. In an announcement made on Saturday afternoon, Six One Indie, the creators of the show, said that it’s removal comes after the discovery after voting was done, and the show was recorded. **“The Indie Game Awards have a hard stance on the use of gen AI throughout the nomination process and during the ceremony itself,”** the statement reads. **“When it was submitted for consideration, representatives of Sandfall Interactive agreed that no gen AI was used in the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.** **“In light of Sandfall Interactive confirming the use of gen AI on the day of the Indie Game Awards 2025 premiere, this does disqualify Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from its nomination.”** Six One Indie ended by thanking the community for being patient and providing feedback on the situation. **“The organizational team behind the ceremony is a small crew with big ambitions, and The Indie Game Awards can only grow with your help and support,”** they said. **“We already can’t wait for the 2026 ceremony!”** With Clair Obscur’s disqualification, the awards will now go to the runner ups. That means the award for Debut Game goes to Sorry We’re Closed while Game of the Year now goes to Blue Prince. What do you think of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 being disqualified and having their awards stripped at The Indie Game Awards due to gen AI? the one silver lining about Larian using AI is seeing how angry it is making everyone. it has restored some of my faith in humanity.

Jobs advertised to work with AI actor Tilly Norwood As nine new jobs are being advertised to work with controversial AI actor Tilly Norwood - XICOIA CEO, Eline Van der Velden explains what she thinks about the backlash to her creation.

Well I used to use AP as one of my sources of news. Not any more.

I know it's blasphemy, but I wonder if it's possible that a prebuilt might be a decent deal all things considered.

I've been trying to save up for two months to begin to replace the PC I destroyed via The Spill, but now RAM prices are twice as much as they were when I started. 32GB of DDR5 RAM now costs more than the CPU I was going to get.

Cult classic and critically acclaimed anime Banana Fish gets horrifically bad AI dub Did Banana Fish do this to you? The fan-beloved anime series has lacked an official dub since its release in 2018. There may have been a paranormal primate paw involved, however, since their wish (sort of) came true in the worst kind of way. To call the _Banana Fish_ AI dub “bad” would be a disservice to bad dubbing. I’m personally a great fan of bad dubbing in certain circumstances. Life would be a little duller without _Robot Alchemic Drive_ ‘s infamous bread and water soup, or _Chaos Wars_ ‘ infamous… everything. But those are human failures. There’s a certain something with an unintentionally bad creation that makes many of us want to cheer for it. Something poignant and beautiful in failing so fantastically that it elevates the entire experience. If you’re going to fail, fail spectacularly, as they say. These AI dubs don’t have the same effect. Maybe it’s the context that makes it more sad and frustrating than funny. This is something that people do for a living, who were not hired and paid to do an infinitely better job, or at the very least given the opportunity to do a bad job. Maybe it’s simply the lack of humanity that can be felt even when it can’t be neatly defined or described. Either way, it’s awful and I want it to go away. This may be the outgrowth of Amazon’s AI dubbing initiative launched in March of this year, which started with “12 licensed movies and series.” _Banana Fish_ isn’t the only anime to receive the _Moonbase Alpha_ treatment. The ensloppiffication continues with titles such as _Pet_ and the _No Game No Life_ _Zero_ film, which _already had a dub_. * * * > The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on themA company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element. > > — LittleKuriboh (@littlekuriboh.bsky.social) 2025-11-28T23:21:41.034Z > Welp, a second AI dub on Amazon has apparently been found, and it's a show that already had a perfectly normal (albeit non-union) dub: No Game No Life. > > — Brainchild129 (@brainchild129.bsky.social) 2025-11-29T13:51:42.862Z

If you, too, are anti-AI, make sure you search that git repo before you invest your time into it. Two projects that seemed promising at first were tainted with slop.
