one of the problems with the pre-trump immigration system was that when you tried to explain to people how complicated and byzantine the process for coming here legally was, they simply would not believe you
trump has "fixed" this by simply making it impossible to come here legally

She’s not a fan of being left behind, so I picked the kennel option with daytime play sessions in hopes it will help stimulate her appetite. If she’s home alone with a dog sitter she gets bored/lonely.
She seems to be doing a lot better on her vitamin B supplement, which is great, but she’s still underweight. Getting her to eat is kind of a challenge after being sick so often, and I really need her to eat well while she’s being boarded. 🫤
Lizzie the pup will spend a few days at a local kennel next weekend, and I’m planning for her stay like I’m planning the supply chain for an army on the march.
She has a morning supplement, and evening supplement, special toppers for dinner, and a dental bone that she would knock me down for.
On my drive home I passed the cutest little doggo, prancing along like a Tennessee walking horse with his nose up to sniff the spring air.
So you and I and everyone else are in effect now refunding American corporations for import tariffs, although we paid for most of them in the form of higher prices — which they won’t now lower because they have monopoly power to keep prices high.
The Art of the Deal.
yeah, that’s a problem! Yikes
do they not let the kids sign off for parent access anymore? that's what happened at our drs offices - there was a form they had the kid review and sign, which allowed me to see their records via the app and manage appointments
We created this guide for anyone who could experience a miscarriage in a state with abortion restrictions.
We wrote it in consultation with dozens of doctors, including those who regularly treat patients who are miscarrying 👇
totally reasonable
I have a college friend who ended up becoming a futurist, and now I watch their videos every once in awhile. They always remind us that the future is something we're building as we go - it's not set in stone, there are multiple paths to take, and we get to help steer the ship.
The Wetland Project has been my favorite alternate-reality radio experience since it began. Since it only happens once a year, you can’t become accustomed to it. Close your eyes and be washed over by the sonic reality of an isolated bog on Saturna Island!
"At some point if the ship doesn’t turn around, maybe it will start taking on water or listing badly or hit an iceberg, or perhaps the iceberg has been there all along and is named Donald Trump."
Me too! 🫣
J finished buying tickets, and with layovers, here are the airports he and youngest will be flying in or out of over 8 short days:
OHare - Joplin - Fayetteville - Dallas Ft Worth - Houston - St Louis - Midway
He can take Youngest through Precheck with him. Oldest and I have to lump it.
“The greater the artist, the greater the doubt. Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize.”
Robert Hughes
J is thriftier and willing to put up with more discomfort than I am. In the interest of health and sanity, I nixed his cheapest option — a red-eye flight home that would include a layover in Charlotte.
All my travel plans are made, I have taken to the bed. J and Youngest are now working on booking all of their flights, and they keep trooping back to the bedroom to tell me what they’re finding.
It’s very cute
Taking deep breaths now and remembering to be grateful that we fly out of a big airport with a lot of options and none of these flights are super long
And let’s remember that just last week I flew from Minneapolis to KC
We are normally a road trip family! Planning all these flights is very stressful!
Oh, and in addition to Arkansas and Texas, J has to fly to Michigan the week before for work
Clearly this means I’m missing Worlds, which I’m okay with, life has been very overwhelming lately
- I’m flying into Wichita to pick up my mom and drive her to Arkansas
- Flying into Joplin is a lot cheaper than flying into Fayetteville
- Flying out of Fayetteville is cheaper than flying out of Joplin
- I have to rent a minivan to haul everyone around
My grandmother’s memorial service is the same week as Worlds, my life feels insane right now
Family flight plan:
Day 1: Me - OHare to Wichita
Day 3: J and kids, OHare to Joplin
Day 6: Me and oldest, Wichita to OHare; J and youngest, Fayetteville to Houston
Day 11: J and youngest, Houston to OHare
had my monthly massage yesterday and slept through the night for the first time in weeks
The tours were all road trips in my mom’s 1981 Toyota Tercel, and my favorite wardrobe item at the time was a tweed jacket I’d stolen from my brother’s closet
we did 3 campus tours in 89-90 - Midwest family, single mom, I was a 1st gen student who needed scholarships
We toured 2 schools offering real $ plus my backup school that was closer to home. Found out I liked the school w/the smaller campus, plus they offered more $, so that’s where I went
the branch that's under renovation - currently operating with about 15% of their usual square footage AND collection, is still circulating as much as our main location downtown
I should probably offer this as a case study opportunity for a current MLIS student
