Definitely a bonus.
Honestly, this script is just delightful so you won't want to be missing any lines. And as a bonus* you can listen to me playing Uncle Lee a squillion times!
*Well, I think it's a bonus.
Just added a new feature to Uncle Lee's Cookbook: a transcript of the lines spoken by the characters.
It can also re-play the audio for the lines, so you won't miss the amazing work our voice actors have done when your overly sensitive mouse skips a line by mistake (happens to me all the time)!
One thing you could do if you want your own language but also make a new game before 2040 is to create a language that compiles to GDScript (so you just need a parser and a transpiler). I did that (compiling to Lua, though) for our games since 2024 and it's been working great.
Do you need a voice for your video game?
Mad scientist?✔️
Gormless northerner?✔️
Dastardly villain?✔️
Deranged AI?✔️
Slightly creepy hotelier?✔️
Former Olympic swimmer lost in a haunted wardrobe?✔️
All this and much, much more.

We just finished making the achievement icons for Uncle Lee's Cookbook! And we can't show you because they're SECRET 🥲
Well, okay, we can show you one.
Great! Can you send me your username or write in the channel for the game that you're interested in joining the testing? I'll need to ask the publisher to ass you to the provate channel for the beta.
📣Friends of Relatively Painless Games! The beta version of Uncle Lee's Cookbook is ready and we're looking for testers!
You'll get to keep the game when it's released and (if you want) your name in the credits.
DM or reply here if interested.

Awesome! If you are on discord the easiest thing to is to add you to the beta testing channel and then send you the steam key there. Does that work?
You'll need a Steam account. Our publisher Dionous games has set up a channel on their discord server (discord.com/invite/sQYSmwz) for discussions during the testing, to which you'll be added (if you want to).
We're particularly interested in people testing the controller support.

The beta version of Uncle Lee's Cookbook is almost ready!
Last week we finished implementing a new prologue episode, where for the first time ever you can play as uncle Lee and experience the thrill of breaking the universe instead of attempting to fix it.

In Redacted, it’s always Halloween!
I play several ghosts in one of the five episodes- it’s got a great art style and a very silly sense of humour…
It's been a while since I moved to making my own engine, but back around 2018 I made an AGS prototype by running the editor with wine. I remember it working reasonably well.
Happy Birthday!
You can now watch the @adventurex.bsky.social panel "Finding the Funny" on YouTube!
I was so pleased to be on this panel alongside @misterabk.bsky.social @davetheallthing.bsky.social @supernorn.bsky.social and chaired by @tallstorygames.bsky.social

Already fixed it!
It was at the very beginning, the scene where Ines notices she's missing her suitcase was supposed to happen inside the house, and the player shouldn't have access to the outside until they spoke with the trinity. Luckily you went inside immediately anyway so nothing bad happened!
Thanks for streaming our game, by the way! I'm very glad I watched the recording because you found a huge bug (that luckily didn't affect your playthrough) that I need to fix right away!
Thanks! We're so happy you liked it 😄 We're working hard on it and we should be able to announce the release date soon!
Uncle Lee is perfectly capable of causing mayhem when he's off-screen. Even more so, as he can get into all sort of shenanigans and no one has to animate them. Ask the firefighters.
The demo for Uncle Lee's Cookbook is now also on @itch.io! It's playable straight in the browser—that's right, you can start it right now with *exactly* two clicks, no accounts needed. You have no more excuses.

In case you're wondering, it took a while to get it on itch because we had to make a browser port of the engine. It turned out to be surprisingly easy, but we didn't know that!
