TTRPG Question of the Day
What TTRPGs are you currently playing or running?
My algorithm has been focused on other things lately & it occurred to me that I don't know what anyone is playing these days. I'm sure people are still talking about games I just haven't been seeing it.

TTRPG Question of the Day
What helps you the most when it comes to learning a new game?
For me, it's always been building a character, specifically with a character sheet. I know some people who look for actual-plays, while other folk get the most from reading the core book cover-to-cover.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Have you encountered cheating & if so, in what form?
You might not ever have experienced it, but some of us have seen all kinds of stuff one might consider cheating. Obviously there's fudging rolls, but there also stuff like altering sheets or looking at the GM's notes.
Or Alustro's journals from Fading Suns!
TTRPG Question of the Day
What is your favorite TTRPG book that is NOT the core rulebook?
I asked this last year & I really liked a lot of the answers. There are so many products out there, from in-game fiction, to location books, & everything in between. My fav is still Dunkelzhan"s Secrets.
TTRPG Question of the Day
How often to you go to a game store?
These places used to be the only easy way to get TTRPGs & similar products. Now it's easy to buy directly from the publishers, to say nothing of larger marketplaces. If you don't go to one, why? BONUS: What's your fav local store?
TTRPG Question of the Day
How do you handle the lone wolf?
First off, let's assume that they didn't express that they wanted to play this type of character beforehand. How to you deal with a character who doesn't want to go with the group or who always wants to wander off by themselves?
Love this picture so much!
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you prefer games where you roll the dice frequently or do you prefer rolling less often?
Some people get genuinely angry about how often they have to roll the dice, stating that it slows things down or breaks immersion. Other people think rolling math rocks IS the fun.
A friend of mine is going to PAX East next month & I'm a little bit jealous. ๐คฃ I've always wanted to go but the circumstances never seem to pan out.
Have you been? Are you going? What's it actually like?
I agree it's turning a range into a binary, but i think most people would lump books in one of those ends. Though I think PDFs are kind of in the middle.
And yeah, the AI threat is very real now. At any price point.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you prefer an expensive, high production game book or a more affordable one with just the essentials?
This question assumes you've decided to spend money, so remove free from the equation. Do you like a "premium" book or do you value no-frills, affordable content?
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you prefer veteran players or players brand new to the hobby?
This isn't "better". This is about your personal preference. Maybe you like the knowledge that more experienced players come with. Or maybe you enjoy the clean slate & enthusiasm in someone just starting.
TTRPG Question of the Day
How many different campaigns are you in or running?
Obviously, those of you doing this for a living a going to have a higher number, but I'm curious about this. I'm especially interested in how many different systems you are playing with or if you focus in on one.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you think of D&D?
This might seem like a loaded question but I'm genuinely curious. Dungeons & Dragons was how many got into the hobby. Some people love it & engage with it constantly, maybe even create for it. Others hate it for how it dominates the landscape.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you use "unofficial" content?
I couldn't think a term that works for what I'm talking about, but I'm referring to 3rd party or fan-made content. That bloodline you found online. That other company that produces gear books. If you do use it, how much do you use?
TTRPG Question of the Day
Should people strive to emulate actual play performances?
I say "performance" simply because many people on these shows refer to themselves as "AP performers". Some say they look to that AP playstyle as the goal to reach, while others say that style is unrealistic.
TTRPG Question of the Day
How do you feel about "min-maxing"?
It's not just a D&D thing, as much as some people really want to think. Building the mechanically optimal character happens in many different games. But is it bad? Does it disrupt the game? Does it diminish RP? Does it enhance the fun?
TTRPG Question of the Day
It comes out that your party was betrayed from within. Who does your character think did it & why?
(Go ahead & tag the betrayer to let them know you don't trust them ๐คฃ)
TTRPG Question of the Day
Your character is stuck in a sudden unnatural snow storm. What do they think is causing it & what are they gonna do about it?
Thinking about posting scenarios like this. Curious to see what the responses will be to a hypothetical situation like this.
Oh really now? ๐ค
TTRPG Question of the Day
Have you ever been to a gaming convention?
I've only been to a few, held at local colleges. I've never hit the big ones like Gen Con or any of the Pax, though I've wanted to. If you have been, how was your experience? Was it worth the cost, be it time, health, or money?
TTRPG Question of the Day
What toxic trait have your encountered the most in the TTRPG hobby?
Maybe you're lucky & haven't encountered any toxicity. In that instance, I envy you. For most others, we've encountered unpleasant traits & behavior. From bigotry in all it's forms to simple gatekeeping.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Do you prefer to play in a published setting or a homebrew one?
Most the games I see run are homebrew, especially in the D&D variants. I seldom see a Forgotten Realms or Eberron. But at the same time as I say that, some games seem to only get run in the standard setting.
TTRPG Question of the Day
Would you rather have one marathon game session a month or several short sessions?
I was just thinking about this earlier & I'm not sure which one I would probably pick. Too short & I feel like no progress is made. But I also don't do well with long gaps between playing.
TTRPG Question of the Day
How do you keep from suffering burnout?
I took some days off for my birthday & over the course of those days I got to discussing burnout. A good friend of mine was saying that they could see it coming & they might need a break. How do you handle burnout? What even is it?
I have successfully lived another year as of today!
I'm sure absolutely nothing bad will happen in the world at large. Just a nice, peaceful birthday. ๐
You might be onto something...
My son's side of the living space vs mine. ๐คฃ
A whole year of questions. I think almost a whole year previous? I don't know. But I do know I'll probably switch things up this year like I did last year.
No idea what I'll do. Maybe more of the same. But in the end, thanks for the time you've given me & all the interesting answers!
