In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Its absolutely bananas that the response to the Covid pandemic lead to leaps in medical science not seen in decades, general antivirals and the 'cure for cancer' are straight up happening but people hated wearing masks so much they accepted measles, infinite reinfections and glp1s
Today, a lot of people will be talking about the manifesto that Palantir released. In addition to pouring over what those words mean, I invite you to ground the conversation in what Palantir has already done.
Its work with Israel and ICE show us exactly what it stands for.
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay

nothing online works for shit anymore. everybody who knows how to work computer is unemployed. we are stuck with these losers shooting up peptides while they vibecode their claude dongle
90s & 2000s Internet culture was filled w/ ppl playing w/ the idea that 90% of reality is perception & that thus if you alter perception, you change the world. Lotta good people & interesting work came from those waters, but so did misanthrope edgelords like thiel, weev, andreessen, yarvin, land, &c
I was going to post it if I didn't see it in my timeline....
Enjoy! I might skip this one because I can't stand the venue they booked. 🤷♂️
RPS asked me to write about DLSS5, the "neural rendering" tech that Nvidia have been crowing about, that uses generative AI techniques to replace rendered graphics. I wrote about framerates, fakery, and how you seize control of an industry.
Voters in a small Missouri town, unhappy with the city council’s approval of a $6B data center, ousted all four incumbent council members running for reelection
The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. Clockwise from top left: 1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.” 2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”. 3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.” 4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.
a screenshot of the "New Bestsellers" list from Substack, with Andrew Tate in the #1 position
Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.
No one likes unnecessary scaffolding. Thankfully, we have a plan — and John Wilson is here to help break it down.
Wow, great news: the CDC has a study proving COVID vaccines slashed hospitalizations by 55%. Bad news: RFK Jr.’s team killed it before publication because facts were inconvenient. They are literally hiding data that could save your life.

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.

Good for wildlife, too, when done properly.

I like this because it articulates the conservative concept of freedom in a nutshell. You have the freedom to do x, except you don't, because I don't want you to. bsky.app/profile/atru...
NEW: Masked ICE agents arrested an asylum seeker outside of his court hearing, marking a return to the predatory practice of lurking the halls of Seattle Immigration Court for the first time since summer 2025. It is unclear if it will become routine again. www.theburnerseattle.com/post/masked-...
I vote nay
yet another reason to leave substack (before they make it even harder to leave):
"Filing taxes should be really easy and completely free. It is in most other developed countries. In 2024, the Biden administration debuted a program called Direct File to make tax filing easy and free for most American taxpayers, too.
President Trump killed it."

I think 4 got a little weighed down by parallel narratives that rarely intersect. I liked it, and felt it was a great way to wrap up the overarching plot. 5 had me engaged in the mystery (the new overarching plot) but the anti-android stuff was sometimes tedious.
Glad you enjoyed most of it!
Blaming them for their behavior is something else!
Yes
I'm speaking in defense of Masto mostly because it's the least bad of its kind. BlueSky is only marginally less gross than Xitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
