I enjoyed welcoming Madam Vice President back to North Carolina yesterday.

We could’ve had a thoughtful, kind, and competent president. Instead, we got a stupid, demented asshole.

Yom HaShoah.

We remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

We remember.

Another night of #Passover.

Another reminder that Exodus isn’t just history.

When power hardens and oppression becomes policy, the answer has never been one person, it’s been community, organizing, and collective action.

We don’t just remember. We act together.

Chag Sameach!

It's April 1st, but no April Fools joke this year. Our federal government is the joke and run by fools.

I'm appreciative of folks who have reached out to me asking me to consider the appointment to replace @graigmeyer.bsky.social in the North Carolina Senate. However, I will not be putting my name forward to the Democratic Party for its consideration.

For most of my life, Senator @graigmeyer.bsky.social has been not just a friend, but a mentor, a confidant, and in a lot of ways the father figure I didn't have growing up. While I'm sad his time in the legislature is winding down, I'm excited for his new chapter at the NC Justice Center!

Earlier today I filed a campaign finance complaint about the Local Accountability PAC's involvement in Orange County without first registering with the State Board of Elections. The last thing we need is shadowy, out-of-state PAC money in our local elections.

When the Rev. Jesse Jackson was but a student at NC A&T, he was instrumental in the Greensboro sit-ins. While other Southern governors met integration with violence, NC Gov. Terry Sanford worked with Jackson on a different path, one that helped define the New South.

Black History Month feels different this year, when celebrating Black people is dismissed as “DEI.”

But Black history is American history. Nothing was given willingly. Every Black person in this country is living Black history.

I do too.

This is what road conditions were like on Churton Street just an hour ago. If you don't have to be out, please stay home safe and warm.

Headed over to Wake County to support my friend @winnfornc.bsky.social at his fundraiser tonight. With Winn's help we can help secure Governor Stein's veto and get state government working for people again.

On #InternationalHolocaustRemembranceDay, we remember where hatred, dehumanization, and complicit silence can lead. Honoring the six million Jews and millions of others means refusing to look away today. #Neveragain is a collective responsibility. #NeverAgainIsNow

Remote learning should not be a thing for winter weather. Let kids have snow days!

On MLK Day, we reflect on a democracy that is alive, participatory, and still in the making. Dr. King reminded us that rights come with responsibility, to one another and to the future. Democracy is something we build together, every day.

A new year is here and so is a renewed commitment to the work ahead. Local institutions matter, steady leadership matters, and showing up with seriousness and care still counts. Looking forward with determination to building, listening, and serving my community in the year ahead. Happy New Year! 🎆

Vacant NC state jobs produced $1 billion in lapsed salaries, auditor’s report says The report came from the newly created DAVE division, which has been compared to DOGE and is tasked with recommending job cuts in state government.

Instead of celebrating $1 billion saved because of 8000 vacancies, we should be asking why no one wants to work in state government, especially in critical state agencies like Adult Corrections and Health and Human Services. #ncpol

This is great news, but sadly high wealth counties like Orange County ships its waste to Sampson County and therefore contributes to this problem.

Today I paid my respects to Governor Jim Hunt.

A giant of North Carolina, a servant leader, and a man who believed deeply in education, opportunity, and public service.

May his memory be an eternal blessing for our great state.

For many #Christmas is a season of gathering, generosity, and reflection. Wishing peace, warmth, and kindness to all who are celebrating today. I have a lot of gratitude for the shared humanity that connects us across traditions.
