A People’s Journey, A Nation’s Story | National Museum of African American History and Culture

Has anyone tried accessing the National Museum of African American History website lately nmaahc.si.edu? A lot of past exhibits are gone, and it seems exceedingly slow. Has anyone else experienced this?

Olympian Eileen Gu responds to JD Vance’s comments suggesting she should represent U.S. Gu was born in San Francisco but has represented China internationally since 2019.

JD Vance wants to end birthright citizenship, but if you’re born in the US and winning Olympic medals, you should represent the United States.

Today, Ross Douthat compared the coming AI revolution to European presence in the Americas. About this, Douthat writes, “the Age of Discovery changed the world completely without changing the fundamentals of human existence.” You really have to be blind to a lot of human history to say this.

During a powerful opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, guest host Diego Luna highlighted the essential contributions of immigrants to the U.S.

“There are a lot of lies flying around about immigrants, but I'm sure you have more than one story that can attest to the contrary. Talk about it.”

I am so very pleased to share the cover of my forthcoming book on the history of the Girl Scouts, forthcoming in October.

I think UNC Press did such a beautiful job with the cover. Those are actually my badges from when I was a girl. Even the stitching is my own.

Racial discrimination against People of Color is certainly divisive. Jackie Robinson, who served in a segregated military and who faced court martial for protesting against racial injustice, had a lot to say about this.

“Many celebrities of the time, including Lorraine Hansberry, Langston Hughes, and Paul Robeson, were targeted by the FBI for their outspoken Marxist views. The government wanted to force them out of public life and erase their influence.”

60 years after Bloody Sunday in Alabama, elusive racial progress in Selma Events in Selma, Ala. six decades ago helped win support for the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Today local activists say they're still fighting stubborn segregation, poverty and gun violence.

Post-Selma op-eds:

Carville: "Bonehead bridge stunt alienates working class whites"

Durbin: "Protesters lack decorum!"

Fetterman: Why I'm co-sponsoring Josh Hawley's 'Free the Bridges' act, allowing motorists to run over protesters

Jeffries: "God still on the throne"

It’s an amazing quote. It’s on a slide that I use in my U.S. History survey, and we discussed it thoroughly in my sports history class last semester (where I used a great textbook called A People’s History of Sports in the United States).
