ATF leader Robert Cekada says many of these firearms were used by violent gang members to terrorize the Memphis community, & gangs used 3D-printed machine gun conversion devices to allow the rifles & handguns to be fired fully-auto.

As Trump forces every federal law enforcement leader to thank him & discuss their contributions to making Memphis safer, don't forget that Trump proposed $2.5 billion in cuts to the DOJ, including $545 million to FBI, $468 million to ATF, & $212 million to DEA.

He doesn't care about public safety.

Glock pistol used in deadly shooting at Old Dominion University was illegally sold to shooter, a convicted felon under probation, by a man federal ATF agents knew was selling guns illegally. He previously received a "warning letter" & had to write an apology.

It's time to enforce our gun laws

Totally agree. Grateful there were armed guards there to stop him & glad police will increase presence around synagogues. Wish we didn't need armed security so many places, but if they are well-trained, can help prevent further violence

Today in America, a gunman attacked a university in Virginia and another gunman attacked a synagogue in Michigan. Both gunmen are dead, but communities will long be impacted

Infuriating that our country refuses to take action to protect our schools & houses of worship.

Sheriff says he's been in regular contact with the police chief over the past two weeks to be prepared in case of attack. There will be additional police resources at Jewish facilities in area.

Relieved to hear that no one appears to have been hurt in the attack at Michigan Synagogue.

Sheriff Bouchard says synagogue security engaged the attacker in gunfire, who fled & not in custody.

Take Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" for instance. Republicans provided $150 billion more for the military, while at the same time taking food away from literal children and kicking 10 million people off their health insurance.

That was a choice. They prioritized war at the expense of food and health.

Incredible season finale for HBOs Industry. For a season known for exceptional needle drops, 2 best this week involved Kit Harrington. Baltimore's own TURNSTILE & Gilbert & Sullivan.

Love a show that feels like it was made for me.

Is Violent Crime an 'Urban' Problem? Violence has long been a disproportionately “big city” problem in the United States; prepare for a future where this is no longer the case

"Yet, we should also not talk about New York City as a violent hellhole while ignoring the fact that being murdered in the small towns and rural counties of this country is now occurring at a higher rate" @crimeforecast.bsky.social

Rep. Van Orden body checks his constituent, makes him hold his helmet as he escapes to the restroom, & falsely accuses him of being a paid protestor. Despicable

Some of the biggest conservative voices for crim legal reform are conservatives who have been to prison.

Not just bc it made them see how bad our prisons are (tho they mostly went to lower-level facilities), but bc it forced them to see that most ppl there were not monsters, not diff from them.

When Has Murder Been This Low? Some thoughts on historical crime data.

It's a little more complicated than that, but there's a good chance it is true. jasher.substack.com/p/when-has-m...

Very true. Anything before 1960 should be viewed with more skepticism.

Gov. Spanberger calls out the cruelty of Trump's ICE: "Every minute spent sowing fear is a minute not spent investigating murders, crimes against children, or the criminals defrauding seniors of their life savings."

When immigrants fear local police, crimes go unreported. Survivors stay silent. Communities become less safe—not more. Trump's attempts to scapegoat immigrant communities is not new. And it is dangerous. It divides neighbors and distracts from real solutions that actually make communities safer.

Trump takes credit for lower crime rates in Washington, DC after sending federal troops last year.

Fact check: Since peaking in 2023, D.C. violent crime fell in 2024, before Trump took office, and has continued to fall at similar rates before and after federal intervention.

Interesting point by @mkraju.bsky.social: "No Dems stand up when Trump calls for members to stand if they believe it's their 'first duty' to protect American citizens, 'not illegal aliens."

He adds, "This moment is made for a GOP attack ad"

A political graphic showing two figures in tactical law enforcement gear holding paintball-style launchers. The headline reads, "Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill funnels $75,000,000,000 to ICE with no guardrails." The text further explains that the bill nearly triples ICE funding while making "devastating cuts" to programs like Medicaid and SNAP.

Nearly two-thirds of the total decline in the nation's murder rate since its 2020 peak occurred before Trump's second term. He doesn’t deserve credit.

His cuts to public safety programs while undermining trust in local law enforcement w/ his cruel immigration enforcement has made us less safe.

After spiking by nearly 30% in the last year of Trump’s first term, the 1st year of the pandemic, the homicide rate dropped significantly while Trump was out of office.

During the Biden admin, the US saw record year-over-year declines in both 2023 and 2024.

Trump mentioned the 2025 murder rate being at the lowest level in 125 years. While we don’t have final numbers, there’s a good chance this is true.

But Trump doesn't deserve credit. A 🧵
