Nothing proves how capitalism has brain rotted everyone than thinking the post office, hospitals, public transit, libraries, etc. need to turn a profit to be worthwhile.
Good lucky scatter plot for MLS 2026; SKC is atrocious, Vancouver is incredible
good-lucky catter plot of all MLS teams since 2013
With most teams having played 8 games, the underlying stats are beginning to become useful while still noisy.
Vancouver may be the best MLS team ever and SKC the worst. Both are performing as expected.
There's a huge pack of average teams down on their luck.
Yanno maybe losing 1-0 to SJ wasn’t that bad of a result for us
Someone needs to tell Jake Zivin on Sunday Night Soccer that Portland scored on LAFC already lol #MLS #SaveTheCaps
This has the potential for another MLS Before Dark classic
@asarehman.bsky.social A reminder that nominally, Laborda is about 5-6th om the CB depth chart because he covers at L/RB as well. Caps are so injured at the back and still have the top of the league on lock. #VWFC #SaveTheCaps

Blue graphic with white text: Save the Caps Vancouver IS A FOOTBALL CITY. Our club belongs here. The Vancouver Whitecaps have called this city home since 1974. Fifty-two years of history. A MLS Cup Final. 54,000 fans in the stands. The fans have shown up, and now it's time for the city and province to do the same.

By the same metric, if people are basing “best players in the world” on a league (or leagues) that monopolizes world talent, that’s a hell of a narrow worldview. The Canucks also iced arguably their worst lineup in decades. It just makes zero sense to want to keep paying nosebleed prices for that.
Shouldn’t matter - this city is starved for professional sports success. Why does winning with world-renowned players mean more than winning it with people who chose to wear team’s colours with pride?
And don’t even get me started on people heading for the exits *when the team is winning the game*. I understand that supporter culture isn’t really a thing in North America, but it still grinds my gears to see people rushing to get to Skytrain first.
You can’t tell me that travelling to the games is more work, the venues are literally across a street from one another. This city craves a winning team, and yet there isn’t a waiting list for tickets to the closest thing they have?
honestly, I still don’t understand this city - this team has been trending upwards for over a year now, and the other major sports team just posted a record-breaking low, and yet they still won’t get behind the Caps fully. You can get #VWFC season tix for cheaper than, what, 5 games next door?
“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.
“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”
Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”
this is fucking unreal stuff from Noah Wyle on the magic of The Pitt. www.gq.com/story/noah-w...
I drive by that every time I’m on the way in for a Whitecaps match, and never knew it was the set for Happy’s apartment in one of my favourite movies of all time!
SD are averaging a red a game across all comps in their last six. It’s insane.
Screenshot of Elmo next to his pet's fishbowl in Elmo's World. The subtitles say "We. Dorothy's been thinking abou and down to what’s her daughter."
four birds in a cartoon from Sesame Street, with the caption reading "Oh, shit"
Another Sesame Street cartoon saying "Oh shit"
Screenshot of Big Bird in Hooper’s Store with live human Alan and a flying red bird. The subtitles read: "Time for the birth of terror. Me"
Do not watch Sesame Street on Tubi with the subtitles on 😭. I swear, I didn't edit or add anything. Is it hilarious? Yes, but also, they need to fix this immediately. Absolutely incomprehensible and bad
Everyone wants the Canucks to be good. The Whitecaps actually.
Vancouver get on board.

Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.
If you were alarmed enough by Twitter morphing into a Nazi bar to move here, I hope you're thoughtful enough to realize Substack has the same problem.

Anything is better than enriching people who gladly host hate speech.
Why bother scoring the first goal at Inter Miami's new stadium when the headlines will just lie and say Messi did anyway.
@asarehman.bsky.social couple post-post game thoughts - re: Caps not clearing their lines well, keep in mind the first goal was an inch-perfect golazo (and 3 of 4 against us in MLS play have been) - and the Caps do often hit the “row Z” clearance - just the one leading to the goal was a bit mis-hit.
@asarehman.bsky.social I was getting ready to be deeply critical of the team’s final product tonight, until the luck finally broke our way. What a result. #VWFC
