From #Copenhagen to #Uppsala!
The past two days were full of engaging discussions and insights into diverse, and yet often mutually constitutive colonial legal systems and their influence on family formation in the Caribbean. Many thanks for the invitation!

Libraries are SO important 🥹
Thanks for coming, Teresa! It was brilliant to have you here!
Dear historians, some of you often think about the Roman Empire, but what about the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation? In an article with Tobias Winnerling, we ask where we can find the #HRE in today’s pop culture. What should we not forget? All tips welcome! #earlymodern #medievalsky #history

I believe that many people want to be a force for good in the world.
But then they insist on eating apples in quiet train compartments!!
I feel like this is a breakthrough moment.
Exactly. It explains EVERYTHING and is, therefore, the best history fact ever.
Excuse me, yet another Early Modernist weighing in, but I do think we need to contextualise more here. This discussion completely ignores the fact that it was constantly dark in the Middle Ages.
It was fantastic to meet *you* - after all these years!
The maddest someone has ever gotten at me was when I talked about the child sized manacles Jefferson had at Monticello for 9 year old children. They could not cope with the idea that a child the same age as their child had been enslaved. And it made them angry that I made them know facts
I once read a source in which a British captain, after the anguish cries of a FOUR YEAR OLD enslaved girl bothered him so much on the voyage, went below deck and stabbed her to death just for quiet.
If you’re not familiar with the primary sources, it’s difficult to comprehend how bad it was.
I keep coming back to this James Baldwin quote these days.
"The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality."
New hero just dropped.
Master's workshop continues! Thesis on two case studies on claims of compensation against Lübeck in the 16th century (chaired by @mouseemperor.bsky.social), and I just learned that OpenAI's online ChatGTP function recognises Middle Low German elements in Early New German texts.

All the world in a postbag! It's always very special for me to speak at public events to history fans who are learning about the Prize Papers for the first time. Yesterday I was invited to the inForum, a cultural event for #bestagers - and what a stimulating evening we had! #earlymodern #wisskom 🗃️
hello from Vienna, which I found out tonight has a fast food place called "Hab's Burgers"
Same here, Gina!! Hope you're well!
Jag stannar också hemma! Party i personalrummet, Brita?!
The @uu.se history students' association invited me as a guest lecturer tonight. Not only were they the sweetest, most engaged audience I've ever had, they also *gave me flowers*. I think I've peaked now, job-wise.

[“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape? The moneylenders, the know-nothings, the authoritarians have us all in prison; if we value the freedom of the mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can.”]
Ursula le Guin, on the accusation that fantasy is an escape from reality
