If you told me before the internet existed that there would one day be a DSL to specify visual formatting of webpages that gets updated with new features continuously forever i would’ve been like what’s the internet

There’s good docs, but no real good way to learn git. Personally, I only gained a good mental model of git after implementing a toy clone of git, which is a really high bar pedagogy-wise. Like imagine if to get a decent mental model of computer files, you had to implement a filesystem, as opposed to

I only briefly looked into them but it seemed like the kind of thing where all of the good ones worth buying are really expensive on the order of 4 figures

Yup i can tell the dev ergonomics were great last time i messed around with svelte, so i think it’s pretty natural to wonder if we can go further?

That’s the part that im not totally convinced about i guess. Why would everyone go to another framework? Perhaps this FooFramework’s feature set is good enough for many users. Maybe inherently the number of users interested in that isn’t high enough to be popular tho

This doesn’t feel like a given? I wonder if there’s a significant number of devs who would prefer the alternative or something less extreme wrt frequent changes

library to both be stable and be good tho

Hm i guess I'm not convinced that react/astro/sveltekit/etc aren't platforms then? Separately, maybe most users today seem to value this faster movement, but users like me will definitely value the stability over fast feature rollouts. Maybe the economics of OSS wont simultaneously allow a

Right and I wish there was at least one yk? (Maybe every library started out with this goal, but abandoned it when they realized they wanted to make breaking changes? Idk but it would be interesting to see what happens if a library made this the #1 priority (like how Java lang practically does))

Im mainly wondering/complaining about a frontend web library/framework that wont potentially require me to do codechanges every few years just to keep up with its last supported versions

3 months ago 2 0 1 0

Wait i think we’re talking about different things lmao

3 months ago 1 0 1 0

Yeah that’s fair, but I’m not totally convinced that frameworks/libraries like sveltekit had to go through these upgrades because of the changing web standards

3 months ago 2 0 2 0

On npm, sveltejs/kit stable v1 was released 3 years ago and stable v2 was 2 years ago, so i expect them to have breaking major upgrades on a regular cadence

3 months ago 1 0 1 0

Appreciate that but SvelteKit itself (and Svelte) already had a major upgrade (with what i assume are breaking chages since there’s a migration guide) 💔
