The thing is, I haven't played the game in fifteen years, but every so often, like today, the tune just surfaces out of my memory.

About fifteen years ago, I got my hands on an NES Final Fantasy cartridge ROM, and I played it on an emulator. Unfortunately, due to an issue with the processor, the game would only run at double speed, including the music frequency & tempo.

It gave some parts (Matoya's Cave) a manic cheerfulness.

Too many people see politics as a way of justifying and reifying their existing bigotries. I think this is ultimately poisonous to pluralistic democracy, but I don't know how we remediate it.

Brother, you're acting like you brought a pigeon to a chess game, to mix metaphors.

"Breed more children to be able to outlast the enemies of the people" is grade A eugenic rhetoric.

Remember folks: we need you to have live kids so we can turn them into dead soldiers.

Heard this same shit before from the people who thought invading Iraq was justified. It was a con when they said it, it was still a con when this opportunist shitheel said it.

Ah, eugenics.

Eugenic rhetoric is a moral atrocity even if it doesn't cross into legally-defined atrocity until it becomes policy.

There is no such thing as a person who is so irredeemably evil that every thing they do or touch becomes irredeemably evil.

Nobody should be possessing a child, unless they're incorporeal and have a Class 3 Haunting License, and even then they have to ask permission.

But seriously, folks. Children are people. You don't possess people unless you're enslaving them. You should nurture a child & raise them, not own them.

Given it's Neil Druckmann we're talking about, I don't think there's evidence to suggest he's an ethnic supremacist, which a charitable read of your post suggests is what you meant.

I'm also not sure anyone who'd be upset by Japanese artists wouldn't also be upset about Jewish ones.

Mazal tov, and I hope you keep that energy all the way through.

I don't much like AIPAC, but they are not, as the poster I replied to stated, an Israeli organization, any more than the NRA is Russian.

Myanmar military regime widens sanitary towel ban, claiming rebels use them for first aid Activists say clamp down on period products to target insurgents is gender-based violence and violates rights

Right wing regimes love doing harm to women. They don't own it, the left can be misogynistic too, of course. But only right-wingers are banning and blockading menstrual pads, allegedly because they make good wound dressings, but most likely because it keeps women under pressure.

'Against the tide': More Israelis and Palestinians now choose to grieve together The Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony Is Now in Its 21st Year. One of Its Organizers Says That People Are Now Joining Faster After the Loss of Their Loved Ones, Understanding 'They Can't...

I often get the sense that American leftists write off joint Israeli-Palestinian activism as naive kumbaya shit but whenever I read something like this I am blown away by the strength of people who have endured the worst losses possible and yet still show up with compassion for the “enemy”

But apparently enough people move back and forth from there to here that their news media treated it effectively as a local interest story.

I would like to be the kind of friend to check in like that. I'm not sure I have been. I will try to do better, if I learn a faraway friend may be in peril.

I will say I was very surprised that an acquaintance living in an active war zone contacted me less than an hour afterward to ask if we were okay. I thought: how, with your daily if not hourly rains of artillery fire, do you have room in your head to spare for us on the other side of the world?

we knew immediately something had catastrophically blown up.

As I understand it, one home was completely destroyed and two others damaged beyond repair, and two people died as a result. It was traced to a faulty gas stove. Good motivation to replace them with electric, I suppose.

In early August 2020, Northwest Baltimore, MD was literally shaken by an explosion measured as an earthquake with a magnitude between 0.0-1.0.

It's strange, not having been near explosions before then, that when we felt the house shake a second before the sound reached us (and rattled the windows),

AIPAC sucks, but it's an American organization.

Well, I'm not going to see eye to eye with you on "degen", but I appreciate where you're coming from.

Have a good night.

"young females"

People should feel worse writing those words than we do reading them. Ugh.

I'm going to have to read a lot extra to understand those words, so I'm going to defer to your greater expertise in the matter.

If I had to guess, the VA treats PTSD as treatable and the 100% rating was only for untreated PTSD.

(As opposed to, say, someone with a spinal cord injury, rated at 70% with the mandatory determination of non-service-related hearing loss.)

"Well actually, it's not piracy because the US Navy is a government agency"

It's still for the private gain of the president and his gang, so it *is* probably still pillage, at the least.

(I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice)

What gets me is the "interview" wasn't Karp asking Mosley for a performance, it was Karp evil-monologuing at Mosley and then just exiting stage left.

How do you feel about "Pharisee"?

2 days ago 0 0 1 0

Given the reactions I'm seeing to this on Bsky, it feels kinda weird to be impressed that they've developed something that can endure the stress and inefficiency of running for that long/far. It's not a huge deal, but it's neat. (If the feat is replicable, anyway.)

I'd rather call evil and hateful people "evil" and "hateful", with "regressive" including both. It's likewise easy to understand, and doesn't echo the things right-wingers and regressive left-wingers say about us queers, ethnic minorities, & other "undesirables".

Using the word/concept of "degenerate" (n) is itself part of Nazi rhetoric. That's why I don't use the word, it's physically repulsive to use their way of thinking. It doesn't bother you?
