This weekend I've been deep in the literature writing up one of my thesis chapters, and came across what might be one of the most wholesome academic acknowledgements in a book I've ever seen (from "Situated Learning: Legitimate Peripheral Participation")

4/🧵 Per fer aquest estudi, utilitzarem dos mètodes: 1) Anàlisi crítica del discurs, que examina com el llenguatge manté o desafia les estructures de poder i les desigualtats que se’n deriven, i 2) entrevistes amb ornitòlegs catalans per comprendre millor les percepcions sobre aquest tema.

3/🧵 En aquest estudi utilitzem la perspectiva de l’imperialisme lingüístic, que implica l’estudi de les estructures de poder sociopolítiques que fan que determinades llengües s’imposin i es validin per sobre d’altres llengües en contextos específics.

3/🧵 In this study we utilise a lens of linguistic imperialism, which involves the study of sociopolitical power structures that result in certain language(s) being imposed and validated over others in specific contexts.

2/🧵 Catalonia is an autonomous region in Spain with a great deal of biodiversity including avifauna. Although many languages are spoken throughout the country, Catalan is the official language of this region; however, Catalonia and the Catalan language have a complex history of repression.

First EOU Fledglings conference in the books! I presented my Procellariiformes predation chapter results, chaired my first conference session, and have cool collaborations pending with some EC researchers I met there! Now onto BOU 2026 to share my work on linguistic imperialism in ornithology! 🪶

It's been a lovely few days exploring Gdańsk before EOU Fledglings tomorrow! Really excited to present my first PhD chapter, a synthesis of the peer-reviewed literature on predation on Procellariiformes.
This project has been a labour of love over the years and I'm excited to finally share it!

What a fascinating topic/paper, well done!
