Saving face is a big thing, sadly, and it’s really hard to get past especially if it’s ingrained in your culture. I think it’s doubly difficult if admitting you were wrong means admitting you have caused harm, as well, especially to people you care about.

Healthcare workers didn’t have a problem masking prior to COVID. Especially in NICU, oncology, transplant and/or around vulnerable patients

Masks were made political & the patients suffer.
Wear a mask. It’s the right thing to do.
Anytime I advocate for better covid mitigations - people assume I want to lock them in their homes forever.
In reality we could drastically limit covid transmission with the following:
- Masks in healthcare
- Clean air in public spaces
- Free vaccines, tests & respirators
- Paid time off

I haven’t found it particularly predictive on a daily basis, but I do find that overall trends/large shifts do tend to match slower changes in baseline. Buuut since it can also reflect other things like medications that change heart rate etc, I don’t really rely on it.
They eventually went to find masks (this was a clinic that said in their emails that masks were mandatory!), but the rest of the appointment focused on my ‘anxiety’ when they didn’t find anything on the scope.
Yup, I had them tell me all my sinus issues might also be from anxiety and once I acclimatize to not masking I’ll be fine, I’ll even find that getting sick is no big deal! Then they hesitated, and gave each other looks when I asked them to mask up before I took mine off for a sinus scope.
Wear a damn mask in public. Care about, fight for, model cleaner air. Don't hold a single organizing event that people would be prevented from attending due to concerns about covid.
That's the work. That's what confronting disinformation head-on will look like. Confronting *all* of it.
I'm not talking down to anybody, I'm not even mad. I'm a staunch believer that when people want to join your political tent, you welcome them instead of grouching at them for not being there sooner.
But if you wanna join this tent, you gotta actually join this tent. The whole thing.
I appreciate liberals suddenly caring about disinformation again, but those of us that've been tending this home fire for the past four years are gonna need y'all to recognize the covid disinformation you need to undo in your own mind if you want to stand in solidarity with disabled people.
I Long for an Internet where it would be possible to talk in a totally nuanced way about things. Where you could say I am broadly on your side about this, but I also think about this, without people thinking you are the other side. I long for sideless conversations. Conversations as spherical as the world we live in.
