Here’s a recent study showing just over a third of undergraduates granting parent/caregiver tracking permissions, but it doesn’t discuss non-parent tracking:

One detail from this story jumps out at me which is that the student’s friends tracked her phone location. In this case it ends well but allowing passive location tracking also creates risk, e.g. for stalking and harassment.
How prevalent is passive location sharing among school students?

It was worth doing and I’ve wondered the same thing. Validated some of my prior assumptions about this asset class.
The very rough answer seems be that Bored Ape NFT’s peaked in late 2021 and early 2022 in the $150K to $250k range
(say 50 to 90 ETH). And the latest transactions on opensea.io are in the 6 to 7 ETH range, around $12K to $14K. Not an expert, just playing with available data.
As I recall his comedy skills came from having to do hours of patter as a footpath banjo player at Six Flags. So maybe banjoist first, actor second, comedian third?
Also if you accept the word gweilo you are buying into the idea that othering us is OK as long as you are nice about it. Just saying.
The chinamaxxing thing is definitely setting up the foreigner-in-China community for some attacks
Sorry you feel attacked, not my intention 😔. I have a lovely faux-silk tunic I bought for a costume party that got cancelled during Covid and never have worn it
There may be a difference between how much you and I identify with the online HK diaspora (not even sure what’s left or right anymore). Some folks say things that resonate with me, others not so much, and others get muted and probably ought to get blocked
Again, it’s up to you. I wouldn’t. But if you can pull it off then do it and let folks
think what they will
Sure, haters are going to hate. And people ask me where I’m from or “other” me. If someone asks if you grew up here, just smile and say “lots of HKers weren’t born here”. Not trying to dismiss what if feels like to have someone tell you to GTF home but I don’t feel it’s the majority view here
It’s up to you. Personally I think there’s some borderline cosplay where I wouldn’t want to dress up as a Chinese person. But I don’t think it’s blood and soil because it doesn’t relate to your ability to belong to (or claim) this city.
There are probably some cultural boundaries. I wouldn’t go out on CNY wearing a silk brocade outfit….
Because almost everyone in this town is from somewhere else. There may be a bit of a hierarchy (ie people from Guangdong maybe less friction) but if you own your belonging here people usually accept it.
In my experience once you start walking into shops and restaurants and speaking Cantonese and nobody says “wow your Chinese is
so good” you are basically there. Being able to belt out something like 海闊天空 at karaoke helps too
I remember getting them at Uny or Aeon in Taikoo Shing. Something like 台灣紅色芭樂. And yeah I consider myself 香港人. Try the fruit market, esp. when in season. Market gets crowded, and prepare for sticker shock — deals aren’t plentiful (low prices often for low quality) but you can haggle a bit.
They sell them at the Yaumatei fruit market and probably fancy supermarkets and fruit stands. But often HK$50-$100 each seedfella.com/blogs/news/y...
I feel like the red ones taste slightly soapy. Not a fan. White ones fine, the DF equivalent of a gala apple. Pricey yellow ones with the translucent flesh sublime. But red I’ll take a pass.
The rules and rates around premium/recoupment will
be something to watch.
There’s precedent for this in TRIA which plugged a real and real economically damaging gap in terrorism and war risk insurance. No doubt post-hoc paying to fix what has been broken, but the beneficiaries are not only private companies but anyone with a
stake in oil prices & global trade?
Loitering is one of those flexible public order crimes that expands to embrace conduct well beyond hanging around with no ostensible purpose. Here it’s probably that he was loitering in a way (splashing liquid) that causes another person to be concerned about their safety.
I’ve been impressed at how people have kept up/stepped up their seatbelt usage even after the law was withdrawn. And when it goes “click” others do it too. Not everyone but it’s noticeable
The fact that he’s rising from the body during the autopsy gives him some backstory
A skeleton leans on a shovel and weeps over a grave
That skeleton appears with their shovel later in the book, probably shedding tears for their anatomized remains. Vesalius was such a great illustrator. Thanks for sharing
I did note RTHK did a brief and positive story on him (but based on the app it seems only in English) news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/comp...
An acquaintance wanted to message me an event invite. Given the choice between WeChat and WhatsApp, I chose WeChat.
I don’t usually associate WeChat with privacy, but you don’t have to provide a phone number. If Meta cared they could provide a privacy protecting solution but they don’t.
Now complete the act by folding it into quarters and sticking it in your back pocket
Happy deferred Thanksgiving celebration day to all who defer celebrating Thanksgiving
I vaguely remember there was a Daoist cult of conserving jing as well (something about giant foreheads?)
I was just trying to explain the reference. I’ve made it a long practice not to make sweeping statements about the effectiveness of TCM (or alternative/complimentary in general), especially if it’s not displacing essential and effective conventional treatments
