Wait wot we're the normal ones now? I can do this, I can do this ...

Or unnatural disaster
Unfortunately climate change won't be so discriminating
Is it saying that the deep southward flow in the W is weakening while the shallow northward flow in the E is strengthening, though not so much? Cd this be because the Arctic is warming but SO winds remain strong? A force @ each pole has driven AMOC - one is turning away from their shared endeavour?

The world is upside down. Thinking of Alon-Lee Green and Standing Together tonight πππ
That - and this

My heart is with my friends @standing-together.bsky.social.
From the Standing Together Theory of Change: 'We see all people as potential partners.' In the midst of hatred and violence and trauma, the peace in their hearts only seems to grow stronger.
Is it also fair to say that while global warming remains tightly pegged to CO2 concentration, CO2 concentration is not as tightly pegged to direct emissions, because of e.g. cloud feedbacks, aerosol changes etc?? In which case RCP8.5 may not be so far off in terms of warming?? (Non-scientist asking)
How did we get here? Fossil fuel lobby a big part, but maybe if we understood all kinds of intelligence and valued & rewarded every kind of contribution to society equally, voters wouldn't have been so ready to buy this. We don't need the titles, for instance. It always comes back to education.
Wow beautiful writing and weaving from Sul Nowroz
That's so affirming to hear, thank you for your reply, it's really appreciated :)
Ah just what I wanted, thank youπ
What's a good kind of masculinity my small grandsons can aspire to? If we're going to diss 'toxic masculinity' and now 'petromasculinity', they're going to need a positive frame for their coming manhood.
Plus 'mountain, heath and bog' I guess. It does look quite different from the familiar graph @annieleymarie.bsky.social kindly shared, in which the level of pasture is more obvious, as is the land used to grow animal feed. Just shows how the same info can be represented in different ways.
Where's pasture / sheep & cows in that?
I keep hearing that the threshold is Β£29k, but mine is Β£21k - and that's been frozen for years. It's a postgraduate loan. I can see the lower threshold makes sense for the government, as otherwise the PG loans would never be repaid, but at least it could kick in above min wage :/
I have a climate control duvet he can borrow if it helps
A lot to process in the news after a busy weekend with the grandkids. Distraught for the people of Tehran raising families under blackened skies. Still a piece of my heart left for Glasgow's Union Street in the city of my childhood.
This is my response to the news every morning
Seems you're not the only one sceptical about our great comeback - according to this recent article in Nature, 'overshoot barely registers in biodiversity science'. So no one is studying the viability of reanimating dead ecosystems.

Now I can't stop singing this song: 'You would think reform / Was a baby that must be born ...'

And that's just the humans?
It's the river of no return, even if by some chance we're not too busy fighting each other and still have the infrastructure and the bandwidth to reverse global warming. This is the time. And there are strategies - like strategic focus on reducing methane emissions while we navigate this.
'Overshoot barely registers in biodiversity science.'
There's no way to bring back lost ecosystems, the dead can't be re-animated, & grabbing land for carbon capture hits biodiversity.

Just amazing work as always from @elliechowns.bsky.social. You can feel the political ground shifting, and the gap where an affirmative answer should have been. Looking forward to so much from a progressive government, not least reform of parliament to look after our MPs better.
Not having fought hard enough for an EHCP when you needed one is a pretty arduous process too. Speaking as a Mum still trying to support adults dealing with the aftermath of a badly fitting education 20 years later.
Great to see the familiar orange hat reporting for The Nerve in Gorton and Denton, and noticing the Green Party what's more!
