"Could 2018 LeBron prevent France from falling to Nazi Germany in 1940?" is either a genius video or you don't have enough NBA discourse context to appreciate it. No third option. It simultaneously invents a genre and makes further entries unnecessary. 7/10, no notes. youtube.com/watch?v=0j7y...

Journalists and everyone on social media keeps asking this question from the perspective of the hammer they're holding rather than the perspective of a viable end result. Normal voters MUST be able to fulfill their info intake obligation in a reasonable time frame, like 1-2 hours per week max.
But newsrooms making editorial decisions have been folding under any serious economic or political pressure all our lives. Seems like a weird model to follow. Also, local TV news and 24-hour broadcast news invented low-signal slop before social media was even a thing.
It isn't scalable AT ALL. Just imagine getting updates like that from people at every level of government: president, several cabinet members, house leader, your congressperson, senate leader, both senators, judges, your governor, state congresspeople, county officials, city mayor, council members,
The curse of adulthood: You can impulse buy 20-packs of any bag of cookies you used to want as a kid, but they all taste 20% more stale than you remember.
I love how nobody ever gets fired from ToC. They just keep finding new hallways and side stages to stash people in. Justincopter when? #TournamentOfChampions
So like, real mortgages you pay in crypto or reverse mortgages that pay you in prediction market credits?
First thought: "Oh good, i'm not an idiot." But why did i assume i was?
Hesitant fist pump moment just now. I bought a gadget last year with custom OS on included SD card, plus an extra SD card. Backed up OS when it arrived. Today i found the extra card and figured i should label it. Decided to check first - empty. Checked PC backup drive - gadget backup image is there.
Yeah, it's rough out there. What would help?
If you're in California, it's good to know about this now. CA gov primary desperately needs FEWER Dem candidates before June 2nd, or we're gonna have to choose between 2 Republicans in November. This guy was leading polls because of massive ad spend by Uber (but still behind both Rep candidates).
Current top of the headphone rankings on headphones.com with the highest average score being 7.1, next highest 7.0, and everything else rated 6.9 or below
The headphone nerd council rated these 5.6 out of 7.1, which is actually a very high score believe it or not! Most of the stuff that's higher on the list is way more expensive. headphones.com/pages/hps-he...
Open-back headphones have a perforated outer enclosure and aren't trying to keep sound from escaping. Anyone in the room can hear what you're playing, like you're wearing a boombox on your head. But the benefits are a more spacious soundstage and better ventilation. Just a different experience.
If anyone's looking for high quality headphones that you can pretty much only wear at home by yourself, Sennheiser HD 550 is currently on sale for $200, and you can use discount code TR15 for an additional 15% off. us.sennheiser-hearing.com/products/hd-...
Deadly force arts:
- choke hold

- long distance zoom call
I'm assuming we're gonna be on this ride forever tbh.

Anyway i know suggesting any new government funding seems like a long shot right now. But if every other approach is completely non-viable within our political & economic framework, then this is might be what we gotta work toward.
News orgs would need to offer a conforming fixed price subscription tier. That could increase by a certain percentage every year to track inflation. But obviously the cost of a basic subscription would be much cheaper than what newspapers currently charge their tiny share of recipe/crossword whales.
Problems:
• Reporting basic news requires ~50k journalists in the US alone
• Honest (power-critical) media is always underfunded
• Government can't be trusted to choose which news orgs to fund
Solution?
-> Give everyone 3 use-it-or-lose-it news subscriptions to select each year when filing taxes
Also there's a little nuance in my response. When the author has some credibility with me, i assume you probably wouldn't waste my time with an alarmist doomtitle if "it" wasn't a big deal. But if that becomes your habit then i'm blocking your channel. Unknown randos get blocked on first clickbait.
For me personally, first thumbnail doesn't really factor into deciding whether to click. Second and third thumbnails (viewed on a mobile device) actively reduce my desire to click because they're super noisy and hard to get a read on. Plus none of that side stuff is appealing to look at.
Thinking about the old saying: "A's hire A's. B's hire C's."
I guess there are two intended takeaways:
1. Pep talk to encourage a high hiring bar
2. Parameters for talking shit in hindsight
Not sure how well it holds up tbh. Sometimes bad-fit A's cause way more damage than good-fit Unprovens.
Figuring out who the "We" in this statement ought to be is the most difficult and important problem of our era. Most people who spend their day exposing how NYT/CBS/CNN are fundamentally structurally incapable of telling the truth when it's needed most want nothing more than for NYT to be this "We."

Ostrich Feather Chandelier might be my favorite website on the internet now. 204 photo dots! These people probably can't even remember when they lost their minds. vakkerlight.com/collections/...
With betting markets, you gotta ask: Whose money are you taking?
It's obviously a negative sum game, because nothing new is produced. So you're either losing money or taking it from people who know less than you.
Essentially you're paying the bookie to recruit low-info betters for you to exploit.
Watched every John Wick movie recently. JW4 was my favorite, followed by JW1, then JW3. Lots of cool new chars and creative nonsense. Not sure about Ballerina or JW2. Most of Ballerina was cool but flamethrower stuff got kinda slapstick. Second half of JW2 was good, but beginning was dumb/boring.
Hamnet is really good. Genuinely moving portrayal of how much stories help us process. Also you can make the argument for either Agnes or William being Orpheus or Eurydice. But i guess that goes both ways in any real relationship where both partners have agency and some semblance of their own lives.
