And if i may neonnova this a little bit... the thought of Neon having to hold onto Nova's elbow to be guided, because his arms are too long for any guiding to actually be effective.

When Im guided, at least, you have to be fairly close to the person guiding for them to actually carry you around.

Of course the amusing moments that may come with someone who is not entirely used to their own disability (because of how frequently he's aided with it), but also the thought of him trusting someone enough to allow them to sight-guide him and keep him half-sane at the same time.

Jumping at any noise that sounds halfway suspicious, being as still as possible so any noise he does hear is for certain coming from the other person and not him.

... So every now and then, I think about him interacting with someone while he's entirely blind, while he's vulnerable. And being able to see that fact in the way he carries himself.

So he actively does as much as he can to preserve as much of his sight as possible. Those quiet beeps rarely ever turn off. And especially not in front of other people.

At least with that damned radar, he knows approximations. He knows how close you get. He knows whether he's about to drop off a ledge. He knows if that movement you just made, one he couldn't hear, is one he needs to worry about.

But when he's truly blind? No radar, no cameras, nothing? He still moves like a man, everything is still intentional and fluid, but it's a lot more... reserved. He is reserved. Skittish, almost—not being able to see anything, having absolutely nothing to work with, is something that happens rarely.

On the contrary, when he's damaged or "out of it", you can see it. His movements become so jagged and unnatural it's not unlike watching a machine move. His body jitters and stutters; let alone what his actual voice is doing.

At the end of the day, he is a man beneath all that steel. A very stern, a very loud man, but still a man.

A lot of his mood is telegraphed through his body language. Normally, he's so intentional with it. He fills up so much space. He is here, and you will see him, and you will stay out of his way. But simultaneously it is very fluid, very natural.

Thinking a little bit about Neon... I do imagine his body language changes so, so much when he's completely blind. (🧵)

It is happening again.

🖥️ Because his skull is dented, his hat is (ever so slightly) tilted most of the time. If you point this out, he'll fuss over it for the next ten minutes.

🖥️ He does have prosthetic eyes! I think I'll show the few he has in a follow up post. He has a couple fun ones because they're Yinu's favorite.

🖥️ He's very ashamed of how he looks, so he often wears a balaclava to cover up the lower half of his face. Because of this, he usually never eats in front of people he's nervous around.

🖥️ A lot of nerve damage + his face droops to the side, so drinking is awkward sometimes.

🖥️ Unfortunately, he is bald. Most of his hair never grew back, so the part that does he shaves to keep it all as even as possible. Occasionally. though, you can catch a glimpse of Half Fuzzy Neon.

🖥️ He only has one eye left, and it's only partially functional! (Can mostly see colors and the difference between light and shadow, but is very sensitive to light.) Also a little hard of hearing...
