Also added chromatic abberation, thanks to a couple of suggestions from Reddit! This is what it would look like in gameplay.
Just for fun, here's what it looks like on maximum intensity. At 0% time left this translates into one glitch per frame.
Finally got the glitch shader working! For now it's applied to ICE with a intensity based on how threatening the ICE is, and with increasing intensity the closer the ICE gets to failure.
The shader is designed to work on any GUI element, so we might see it in a few other places too.
Working on adding some colour to tasks in Botnet of Ares. So far, Research, Exploits & ICE have been modified & they really pop now.
Task icons are also new, it's quite tricky to fit them in around the cancel button.

I'm very happy to remove the code from Lobsters for geoblocking the UK, and my thanks to everyone who contributed to making sense of it. I wrote up everything we learned about it and why the risk seems low enough now, hopefully it's useful to other communities: https://lobste.rs/c/xevn8a
Thanks for going through all this trouble to make sure Lobsters can remain live in the UK. I really appreciate it, I love this community.
Working on the Aspect system for Botnet of Ares. These are attributes of the devices within your botnet. These attributes can be used to restrict which machines complete a task, or give bonuses to specific devices. #screenshotsaturday

New Botnet of Ares blogpost is up! This one is about ICE - hostile software encountered by the player as they progress throughout the game tiniuc.com/boa-blog-3/
i updated my router's firmware a few days ago and none of my family noticed. not even a thank you! i'm starting to think they don't care about openssl updating from 3.0.14 to 3.0.15 or that PHY MII settings were fixed for several different device families including ramips and ath79!!
Happy Birthday my man! Love working on Botnet of Ares with you
I'd like to follow more people on Bluesky! Anyone got any suggestions of peeps to follow? Mostly interested in indie games, game development, electronic music production & programming - embedded, communication protocols, cryptograhy.
Absolutely love your work, and this is gorgeous as always. Your illustrations are so evocative!

Surely this new video won't make me seem like a crank.

First PVKK Devlog is out! We'll do that monthly from now onπ
First one is a bit more introductory, and the future ones should dive a bit deeper on the developer perspective and the "behind the scenes" aspect.

Be careful! Your actions will not go unnoticed - Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics will attempt to bring an end to your expansion. Act quickly, reconfigure your botnet and shatter the ICE before it is too late.
As Ares grows more powerful, so does the botnet under its control. Exploit devices ranging from consumer electronics to massive datacentres - but beware: you must carefully select the best devices for each task.
Botnet of Ares puts you in the commander's seat of an ever-growing network of infected computers. The botnet grows for the sole purpose of training Ares, a self-improving AI Agent capable of exploiting devices en masse.
