The theory of the case -- that the SPLC defrauded donors by promising to "dismantle" hate groups while secretly paying informants inside said hate groups, a tactic that it has carried out for nearly half a century -- is completely absurd.
Let's be clear: The Trump Admin's vendetta against the SPLC is a sign of how impactful their work is.

Always misrepresent your motives to be beneficial while hiding the principles of abuse that are being used in whatever action is taken. 3. Frame any call to responsibility or consequences as invalid, and deny, deflect, distract, and attack the source of those calls. 4. Always promise what the targets of manipulation want, frame what you are doing as delivering what they ask for, and then do whatever you want anyway. 5. Undermine any circumstances that stand in your way for example if a wilderness area you want to exploit is pristine, get in and make an oil spill then there is nothing left to protect; or if you want to destroy public education install an abuser, destroy the agency, point at it as a failure of government and then implement your private education plan for profit. 6. Isolate the targets of abuse by dismantling support systems, cutting off access to resources, and opposing anything that could bolster the targets of abuse. 7. Always take the best and leave the least possible for the targets of abuse such as funneling PPE dollars to military contractors while heath care workers use trash bags for protection. 8. Always use unfavorable circumstances to your advantage and if possible, turn circumstances against the targets of abuse such as allowing COVID to ravage blue states while funneling dollars to red states. 9. Always blame the victim for anything bad that happens to them or anything that you do to them. 10. Always pretend to be the victim in any situation, co-opt any symbols or methods your targets use for selfdefense. 11. Never allow scrutiny of your actions and always reject any investigations. 12. Use high control, propaganda, fear, threats, and manipulation to manage the victims of abuse. 13. Never admit to any wrong. 14.
