🚨 New episode alert 🚨 The Addiction Psychologist just dropped a new episode on GLP-1s. In it, Dr. Joseph Schacht discusses what these compounds are, how they work, their potential to treat substance use disorders, and the current state of the science. Really insightful and balanced conversation.
Happy burnout season to all that celebrate

This figure presents the association between NA at the previous moment (horizontal-axis) and NA at the next moment (vertical-axis) as a function of cannabis use between those two moments, and between-person differences in CUD severity (two-panels). steeper slopes signify a stronger autoregressive effect between NA assessments across time. As shown in the figure, cannabis use was associated with decreased NA after use (i.e., the distance between the two lines at any given level of NA), and this effect was most pronounced when the previous moment was characterized by particularly lower- or higher-than-average NA (i.e., lines are father apart at low and high levels of previous moment NA) but only for those high in CUD symptoms (i.e., 6 or more symptoms; right panel). Low CUD Symptoms= -1 SD. High CUD Symptoms= +1 SD. CUD M = 4.4 (SD = 2.0).
Cannabis use was associated with decreased negative affect (NA) and this decrease varied as a function of how intense pre-use NA was and CUD symptoms, such that reduction is NA were largest when the pre-use NA was lower- and higher-than-average, but only really for those with severe CUD.
This figure presents the association between PA at the previous moment (horizontal-axis) and PA at the next moment (vertical-axis) as a function of cannabis use between those two moments. Steeper slopes signify a stronger autoregressive effect between PA assessments across time. As shown in the figure, cannabis use was associated with increased PA after use, reflected in the distance between the two lines at any given level of PA, and this effect was most pronounced when the previous moment was characterized by particularly lower- or higher-than-average PA (i.e., lines are father apart at low and high levels of previous moment PA). As previous moment PA approach a person’s average, the effect of cannabis on PA was diminished (i.e., lines are closer together toward the mean).
Cannabis use was associated with a marked increased in post-use positive affect (PA) and the strength of this increase varied as a function of how intense PA was prior to use, such that the increases in PA were largest when the previous moment was characterized by lower- and higher-than-average PA.
This figure represents the breakdown of the lagging structure and how the various data sources were organized for estimated models. The dashed line represents the autoregressive effect during non-use moments (n = 967). The solid lines represent the autoregressive effect during use moments (n = 424). Ns are the number of observations for that pairing.
To accomplish this, we study tested whether cannabis use disrupts the stability of acute and momentary affect across time (i.e., pre- and post-use) among youth, resulting in reduced NA or increased PA and if such shifts varied as a function of pre-use emotional intensity and CUD severity using EMA
Excited to share our newest publication. Here we test a central hypothesis in cannabis use, does use alter a person's emotions in a theoretically expected way, and if so for whom and under what conditions is that observable. We found that cannabis use was linked to complex changes in emotions.
Highly recommend giving this one a listen once it drops.
