Mercury retrograde in rabies

Increasingly convinced the main damage cell phones have done to creativity isn't decreased attention spans or what not but the elimination of productive boredom. Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."

I cannot emphasize enough how true & real this is.

In almost anywhere on the political spectrum you ID with or major issue, there’s probably a bot/troll operation to encourage your rage and vitriol.

And how/where that rage gets directed, esp understandable rage, is what they are out to influence.

remember when Elon Musk straight up performed a Nazi salute, twice, on stage, and the NYT was like "hmm, huh, what can this mean, who can say"

Federal court says copyrighted books are fair use for AI training Anthropic didn’t break the law when it trained its chatbot with copyrighted books, a judge said, but it must go to trial for allegedly using pirated books.

I once had a fight with my publisher's lawyer over what constitutes "fair use." He said reprinting 4 lines of a poem without the poet's explicit permission was too much. But AI gobbling up whole books now counts as "fair use." Something is definitely wrong with US copyright law.

painting i did based on "the ballet class" by edgar degas, but with the characters from princess tutu. rue stands in the foreground with her back turned in a red romantic tutu. the alligator ballerina sits next to rue.

duck/ ahiru is asleep on the piano, and piké and lillie look up at her mischievously expecting her to get in trouble soon. mr. cat stands alert in the center of the room with a cane, looking away from duck.

other dancers stand in the background, including miss goatette, anteaterina, mytho, and fakir.

They have made the world living hell for no reason whatsoever. People will ask why this happened in a decade and there will be tremendous effort to make it more complicated than “they were evil, stupid, and bored”

The sheer amount of time I used to spend worrying about keeping everyone around me perfectly happy at all times, a completely impossible proposition fundamentally disrespectful to myself and my loved ones! Horrible!

Please donate or share if you can. Jordan is a dear friend, and his partner Mitzi was first diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time that I was. It was devastating to learn that hers came back like this, and I hope modern medicine can give her as much time as possible.

digital painting of four women with dark hair in various styled white dresses, looking off into the distance. it's dark at night and they're in front of a large building.

digital painting of a woman with very bright red hair in waves around her face, wearing a voluminous fur coat and leaning forward with her hand to her face. pearls drip around her neck and hands. she's seated on a fancy stool and there's a column behind her and also movement to suggest other people.

You know what’s better than the results, though? The questions they had me answer about characters from beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle.

We deliberately listened to Iris on a drive yesterday, too. Something in the air?

I’m not surprised as we’re living through soulless remake hell, but if anything deserved a polished new adaptation, it was BeruBara.

You're doing everything so fast, you can't stand taking a single moment to sit and think to yourself. What else is there? What are you saving time to even do? If you brush away the process of learning and growing and thinking what even is left?? Christ

It's all compounding. Journalism being kept behind a paywall, art being absorbed no deeper than surface level, consumption as activism and morality. It's all about the appearance of competence with zero substance. It's going to completely collapse sooner than later

This tech accelerationism is training people to just do the appearance of work: a headline, art that looks almost normal from a distance, to complete things as fast as possible and move onto the next... it's dissolving humanity and culture at large

Because social, economic and environmental concerns are, and should be, vastly more importance than theoretical "usefulness". It's the plot of every other children's movie, lmao. We are so socially overbaked in our compulsions to seek convenience that discomfort, friction, etc, is intolerable to us
