A titlecard for a podcast episode. The text reads: Knock Once for Yes Episode 85 Haunted Road Trip: Choose your own adventure. The photo background is shot from a car and shows a 'through the windscreen' view of a country road passing through English moorland. A heavy mist blankets the landscape, obscuring all features on the horizon in a white blur. A single car approaches on the opposite side of the road, headlights glowing warmly in the dull light of a foggy day.

Screenshot of an X post by @MeetJess. The text reads: 6 years of living with the constant math: Is this space safe? Is this air clean? Is this risk worth it? 6 years of watching caution get mocked, science get diluted, preventable harm get normalized. I’m not tired of caring. I’m tired of being surrounded by people who don’t

Why aren't we doing this?
I think I'm already an author of ill repute - if by 'ill repute' we mean terminally late and unproductive 🫣

Make any comment about the evil of AI on the internet and you will inevitably get people saying, "Ah, but you can't halt progress." You know what else people thought was progress not long after it came into common use? Asbestos.

A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book has been republished. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.
Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.

No One Knows What Is Causing This Coughing Sickness Thing Where You Get All Hot And It Even Seems That People Can Pass It From One Person To Another
In 1996, two neighbors (sic) in Devon, England, spent an entire year hooting at each other while believing they were communicating with owls.
Perfectly normal beginning to every great Dartmoor love story, in my experience.

Be the change you want to see in the world.
After that, be a rumpled library detective, or a legendary creature of tentacles & teeth who haunts foggy villages along the coast, or something cool like that.

Um, well now I need a Muppet Tarot deck to exist, please and thank you.

Even with paying extra for the more isolated spot it was less than a third of most hol cottages, & if we hadn't picked the spot, it would have cost us £69 for 4 nights at the beach. The beaches & paths were mostly empty, & it was pretty easy to avoid people. Just a PSA for fellow CV/CEV folk 😊
4/ but it was great to be so close to the beach. The shop on site was handy but overpriced, but no one batted an eye at us wearing masks, even when checking us in from the car. Of course you could get all this and more renting a holiday cottage but they are sooo expensive, and this was not ....
3/ your caravan too, there was one on site handing out flyers as we arrived. We paid a bit extra to get a location right on the edge of the park, so on one side there was nothing but dunes and the sea, but tbh there were so few people around at that time of year, it wouldn't have mattered....
2/ you're left to find/enter static van by yourself, no one disturbed us. We opened up all the windows, set hepas running and stared at the ocean while the caravan aired out. Food places on site deliver to the caravan door - they are overpriced, but takeaways outside the park also deliver to ...
A sunrise over a beach. The sun just peeks over the sea, a glowing orb of red that paints the horizon in stripes of orange and pink. Through a gap in large tufts of marram grass on a sandy path, we see the orange reflection of the sun's light glittering on a calm, pale blue sea.
It might not be an obvious first choice for a still-coviding holiday, but actually, a Haven Holiday Park worked really well for us. We needed somewhere CHEAP and had the ability to go out of season. Their 2nd week of opening, it was almost deserted, check in/out was drive-through (cont in comments)
Truly a song for our times. Although this tune is an absolute banger, quite unlike this timeline.

Medical Community Concerned By Public’s Tendency To Notice Their Own Symptoms
A deserted beach early in the morning. A mist hangs over a blue-grey sea and the low morning sun tries to burn through the haze. Sand dunes thick with marram grass run behind the strip of pale golden sand still exposed at high tide, protected by a concrete sea defence wall.
