I mean, seriously, a modest tax on second homes -- the *scariest thing you've ever heard*. Just think about all the assumptions & premises that have to be in place for that to make sense to you! For you to think it's a normal thing to say out loud!

And consider: if she is willing to say this publicly -- if she thinks it sounds like a normal thing to say that people will receive positively -- what does that say about the private chats that these people are in? What does it say about their epistemic environments?
A modest tax on second homes is the scariest thing this rich lady has ever seen.
Truly remarkable how many people have told the Pope, in some way or another, to "shut up and dribble." Or corrected him on the Bible, despite their thin education on theology. Or told him to stay out of US affairs, despite him being a US citizen. The hubris is amazing.
something that wrinkles my brain every time I remember it is the fact that total eclipses are only possible on earth because the moon and sun appear to be the same size in our sky, due to the insanely, astronomically unlikely fluke that the moon is 400x smaller than the sun but 400x closer to us.
Might be the greatest opening paragraph of anything ever.

On the plus side, he was able to provide a full description.
"The case is a very funny illustration of what can happen when cops, who as a general rule rarely face consequences for their actions, manage to cross a person with plenty of time, a sizable social media following, and a smooth baritone."
Missed this when it came about but 100% endorse, I've been telling people this for literal decades now

This is no longer about saving the corner building. It's lost. All the SFRS can do is try to prevent what would be a catastrophic spread to Glasgow Central Station.

There's a point in this where he is clearly trying to argue that married women should not have finances independent of their husbands and also that they shouldn't be allowed to get divorced and you do basically realise this is a war against all of modernity, but particularly women.
There seems to be widespread denial about just how extreme Reform is
From setting up a British ICE to โundoing the sexual revolutionโ this is an extreme policy platform - and one clearly inspired and influenced by Trumpโs US and its outriders
One of the greatest bollard walks in history.

People with the authoritarian personality have a natural, instinctive hostility and contempt toward those groups that their society codes as weak or marginalized. Almost always, women are at the top of that list, but so are minorities, queer people, immigrants, and others.
Part of what the authoritarian does to reaffirm their place in the hierarchy is to kiss up to those above them and shit on those below them.
This is crucial: inflicting cruelty on those weaker than them, lower than them, is how the authoritarian self-soothes, cements their place in the universe.
Just going to leave this here
Estate agent's photo of an empty room with white painted walls and ceiling, dark red velvet curtains, a long mahogany-coloured integrated fire surround, bookshelves and cabinet running the length of the room and a vintage red patterned fitted carpet
Estate agent's photo of an empty room with white textured papered walls and painted ceiling, thin flowery curtains and a beige and brown wavy patterned carpet that looks a bit like patterns in beach sand. We can see further brightly coloured purple and orange carpets and yellow wallpaper through open doors beyond
Estate agent's photo of an empty room with a white-painted staircase in one corner. The walls are brightly papered with a geometric flower motic pattern in yellow and green and on the floor is a multi-coloured carpet with an abstract pattern reminiscent of peacock feathers
Estate agent's photo of an empty room with white painted ceiling and cream papered walls that are stained as if by nicotine. There are beige curtains and a beige fitted carpet with repeating patterns in brown, olive green and pale blue.

! @weratedogs.com com goes beyond what you've already heard about the Ring Cam ads and includes excellent reporting about ICE and, less surprisingly, about finding lost dogs
we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad

I'm no political strategist but has anyone in Labour considered *not* alienating any huge chunk of their base? I just feel like they tried alienating the left and the centre left and the public sector workers and the academics, and none of those things worked great, so maybe give my idea a whirl?
Most white people have a grandparent or great grandparent who was once a five year old immigrant. That's what this country used to be about. Somehow, when it comes to people of color, we've lost sight of that entirely.
