Just had the chance to attend a great talk from @nondriver.bsky.social at UW about how cities can better serve nondrivers

Most annoyed by the fact that I looked up how to pay and Google AI hallucinated and told me I could pay with the Token Transit app, which I have. But surprise! Nope! Cash only.
Maui bus
Tried to catch the bus during a Maui layover to go get food but I didn't have cash. Airport food it is.
We travel with just backpacks, so I don't know.
Packed bus
And packed -- at 7am on a Saturday!
Kauai bus
Interior of bus
Loving the transit system on Kauai. Most of the rural systems I've been on have really ancient, diesel fumey, rattly buses. Not here! Maybe some federal infrastructure $$ bought something other than endless airport renovations
Join me Monday evening for a guest lecture and reception at the Urban Design and Planning program at University of Washington
Thank you @mayorofseattle.bsky.social for fighting for the Graham Street station. Our SE Seattle community has been planning for many years, and now’s the time to make it a reality!
I usually run the same route that I know really well and know where all the cracks are. I was running a different route this morning. Should have run in the street. Seattle sidewalks are so awful.
Also probably 10 cars passed me on Wilson while I was sprawled out on the ground and nobody stopped.
Bloody knee
Tripped on a sidewalk crack I didn't see this morning. I don't think anything's broken but it was a pretty hard fall.
Goodam street trees.
Not if you are in a wheelchair. Grass here is mush. For many blind pedestrians they are also a tripping and navigation hazard. I think Seattle needs to build more off sidewalk parking corrals AND mandate a lock-to requirement for shared scooters.

here's another photo
Shared scooters blocking sidewalk
Sigh.
There's a sidewalk on one side of Lake Washington Boulevard here. Completely blocked by shared scooters
Group getting eggs

Clearing out more kid bike stuff -- this is a great kid carrying rack for the Tern GSD if you know anyone with a Gen 1 @ternbicycles.com who needs to haul 4-8yos

if you read one thing today ..... read Jessica Green author of existential politics - pointing out the elephant in the room on #climate policy
This piece by @futureofwhere.bsky.social reminded me that the time I spend in SeaTac airport is the most "urban" experience I have in Seattle. And so rather than dreading it, I should start appreciating it as time I get to spend in a really dense, populated environment
"We know that extreme wealth is associated with carbon emissions, so the more we can chip away at that, the more we can chip away at the power of these asset owners to maintain the status quo." Jessica Green
Great to see @transit.app working on this!
