This is one of the reasons why I want to get atproto into operating systems as service accounts.
That’s a long road, but having an open option we can control is important.

And apparently it also requires a Google-certified Android OS. This will mean that every non-certified alternative like GrapheneOS will be blocked even if the app is downloaded from the Play Store.
I can understand the need for integrity checks, but Play Integrity only protects Google's business.

So, it turns out the German implementation of eIDAS (electronic ID wallet for e.g. age attestation) will require an Apple/Google account to function

If you’d like to define what decentralize means without “a clone of Bluesky that looks like Mastodon servers” we can have that discussion.
Blacksky, NorthSky, EuroSky, Gander, Red Dwarf aren’t Bluesky clones.
Tangled, Smoke Signal, Leaflet, Semble, aren’t microblogging.
Nearing 1,000 users on @eurosky.social!!
Anyone can join. You get the exact same features as Bluesky, login the same way, etc. And see all the same posts. So why move to Eurosky? It’s run by a European non-profit, on European servers and bound by European laws (eg GDPR).
Politics is the defining aspect of networked technology. AT corresponds best to the kind of institutional structure that is key to large scale democracy. AP is a better match for smaller, village-style governance, which is very valid but not the problem I care about.
Wow, a lot of new people are joining Eurosky!
I love to see this, even if I'm not very active here yet ❤️

I really value digital accessibility and accessibility in gener Here's a basic guide to make sure your so posting is more accessible and inclusive (h alt text, etc.).
Bluesky runs an appview.
Blacksky runs an appview.
A complete appview is a several terabytes sized database of the >18 billion follows, likes and posts of all bsky users, ever and forever.
To run a different appview is to make a fork in bsky’s timeline.
One has new posts from Łink.
One doesn’t.
Decentralization is not about servers. It’s about power.
Many Europeans want to be free of American and Chinese Big Tech apps.
Open, decentralized protocols like ActivityPub (powering Mastodon) and AT Protocol (powering Bluesky) may be the key to a new sovereign social media infrastructure.
AT Protocol, the infrastructure powering Bluesky, “represents one of the most concrete opportunities for Europe to create their own social networking infrastructure,” says Dutch data analyst Laurens Hof (@laurenshof.online).
Here are four case-studies on European projects that give us hope:
ATProto is now in IETF standardization process. BOF stage passed at IETF 124 Dublin. Working group formation is next.

Hi from eurosky.social! 🖖🏻
The migration from Bsky's PDS went smooth.
The waiting list of wsocial, wsocial.eu is now operative - so we have gone from having no European Social media platform to two, both powered by ATProto, which means you can can just hop around with your original DID without starting from scratch and settle on the one you like most.
We're getting ready to launch - making sure we've got testing, observability and backups all in good order. It's taking a smidgen longer than we hoped but first invites will arrive on the first week of February and roll out throughout the month.
Thank you for your patience 🙏
Oh, so #W is part of the #ATmosphere after all.
Wonder if their verification process will involve the EU Digital Wallet. I'm not a fan of ID verification at all, but this would be a more elegant, secure and private way than a selfie like other silos and banks demand.
The ATmosphere needs something like Google+'s circles. I understand why some people want different feeds on different platforms, but some of us prefer having an unified list of following/followers across services.
Otherwise, this looks great!
We’re excited to share that Eurosky now has a supporting legal entity, @modalfoundation.bsky.social - a new nonprofit dedicated to making open social tech viable at scale. Big Tech’s dominance can feel inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
