Call for Papers Marking music: the use of music books in early modern Europe For screen reader users: this text is too long for the alt text box, but we will be delighted to share the CfP in a readable format on request until we get the text on our website.

Exciting news from our friends @musicheritageplace.bsky.social, who are on Radio 3 next week!
Other travel plans for 2025 include Boston, Antwerp, Vienna, Jena, Zwickau, Regensburg and the Netherlands. Any other suggestions?
Well, it seems like 1 of our main words for this year is TRAVEL! Only 1 month down, and @louisahb.bsky.social
has already been to Australia to present a seminar paper & make a project recording. Now @egiselbrecht.bsky.social & @drklmckeogh.bsky.social are off to Bologna for our 1st library of 2025
It's an exciting week for us with another major library trip. Following Louisa and Elisabeth's recent work in Belgium, we're staying on home turf at the British Library. We'll round off the week with a meeting with our colleagues at the Music, Heritage, & Place project.
Countless productive conversations, a few mussels and just over 10,000 photos later, and Louisa is back in blighty working on the next paper/article. Thanks to Kristof, Steven and Derek as always. A big recommendation to visit the Plantin-Moretus and Hendrik Conscience Heritage Libraries in Antwerp!
And thank you to the project team,
@annalujz.bsky.social,
@mattsymonds.bsky.social, Robyn Adams, Alex Franklin, and
Ben Wilkinson-Turnbull for the invitation.
Approaching the Weston Library on Broad St from the west. Showing neighbouring buildings: Blackwell’s Books, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Clarendon Building, and the old Indian Institute.
Katie had a brilliant afternoon at a knowledge exchange event hosted by the Shaping Scholarship: Early Donations to the @bodleianlibraries.bsky.social
project discussing databases, the perils of early donation records, and much more. Thank you to Weston Library staff for the fabulous book display.
Very proud to be one of DORMEME's Amici! Such a wonderful #EarlyMusic + #BookHistory project!
Large poster catalogue from 1580 of Plantin's publications for sale. The poster takes up the width of a large table in the reading room of the Plantin-Moretus Museum. In the distance one can see bookshelves at the end of a spacious and airy modern reading room.
Louisa is making the final preparations for her next trip to the Plantin-Moretus Museum and Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library in Antwerp as 2024 Nottebohm Fellow. Delighted to return to sights such as this (ARCH 1231, Catalogue d’éditions plantiniennes en 1580). #bookhistory #musicbookhistory

DORMEME Amici are now live!!! One of the best parts of our project is the opportunity for a collaborative approach to all things Dissemination, Ownership, and Reading. Engaging with scholars who share our passion for these areas can have a significant impact on the work we all do.
Happy International Women's Day from the DORMEME team.
I am very pleased with my latest publication, co-authored with Dr. Idalia García Aguilar. The book, and therefore the chapter, is open access, you can find it here: brill.com/edcollbook-o...
Thanks to @dormeme16.bsky.social, @egiselbrecht.bsky.social, @louisahb.bsky.social, and @drklmckeogh.bsky.social for running 2 amazing workshops!! Definitely the most fun presentations I've attended this semester, and the most fun I've had giving a presentation this semester! #BookHistory

Skyscape with low sunlight breaking through clouds against a pale blue sky. Tops of trees, and some skyscrapers.
Katie attended the #earlymodern Semi-Public Libraries conference yesterday at Lambeth Palace Library. As well as stimulating discussion on what 'public' means in this context, we enjoyed spectacular views. Thank you @annalujz.bsky.social and the History of Libraries seminar for bringing us together
Louisa is packing her final items in preparation for her flight to Oslo this afternoon.
Looking forward to her presentation as part of ‘Liturgical texts and the book market’.

All @louisahb.bsky.social's work! Looking forward to seeing you later. I (Katie) have not saved my goodies and snaffled them immediately.
Thank you, Daniel!
If you can’t bring them to you, then you can go to them. Looking forward to our upcoming online workshops on Dissemination, including a small refreshment pack. What would you like in yours?
We are hard at work setting up the DORMEME database to support research into the Dissemination, Ownership and Reading of Music in the sixteenth century. Get in contact!
Principal investigator, Elisabeth Giselbrecht, has worked on various projects both on the production and the dissemination of early music books, and her enthusiastic team, Katie McKeogh (religious and cultural historian) and Louisa Hunter-Bradley (Plantin music publishing).
Here we are!!! The DORMEME team is made up from three specialists in (Music) Book History, all incredibly passionate about book use and circulation in the sixteenth century.
Who owned and read music books in early modern Europe? Who had access to printed musical material, how did they interact with it, and to what end?
Let’s get started….
