This remains the greatest piece of persuasive advertising ever made about electrification. It's insane to me that Nissan dropped it & it's insane that no one on the green left has picked it up to make it a national PSA.
“For hundreds of years Germany was good enough to receive these elements, although they possessed nothing except infectious political and physical diseases”.
-Hitler, speaking of the Jewish population in a speech to the Reichstag, January 30, 1930.
RFK Jr. just said that immigration is to blame for the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S., not him.
Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.
it's meaningless as a descriptor and it subtly undermines debate of how to IMPROVE society by assigning inappropriate merit to the status quo

i have come to despise power centers. a place that you would think would be good for cyclists and pedestrians but are built in such a way you have to drive from place to place even though it shares a parking lot. and when you do bike, there's no bike parking even though it's a sea of empty concrete.
People: "You spent how much on your bikes?!"
Me: "A fraction of what you lose to auto depreciation."
exactly. being against his methods isn't even really that unreasonable in that you could imagine someone using him as inspiration to bomb abortion clinics, but then why idolize him?
i think you are spot on, but i genuinely don't understand how you can like john brown but not his methods. the man was his methods and we would've never heard of him but for his methods!
Good news happening behind all the bad news.

the liminal space of an airport is much like heaven. you aren't expected to do anything productive but can do just about anything leisurely.
Its going to shock you how big a deal the press thinks Platner’s tattoo is once he wins the nomination
this is why eddington was so brilliant. it really perfectly conveyed how people's phones replaced their local reality.
also, much cheaper and easier not to put it in the atmosphere than to suck it back out.
Story from 2017 but largely unchanged - BECCS (and indeed most "negative emissions") are largely a model fudge factor to hit emissions targets that are increasingly in the rear view mirror.
Cheap and easy to put CO2 in the atmosphere, hard and expensive to pull it out.
The rise in climate pollution from the US is 2025 canceled out the reductions from China, India, Japan, and the EU combined.
These look really cool.
OWN YOUR PUNS. INTEND THEM.
“When we think about e-bike crashes and deaths related to e-bikes, the vast majority are cars and trucks killing people on e-bikes as opposed to people on e-bikes injuring somebody else”

They drove on into the darkness and the moonblanched waste lay before them cold and pale and the moon sat in a ring overhead and in that ring lay a 1995 Lotus Esprit S4 with its own cold gray and nacre seas.
just given the fact that they prefer being aggrieved victims, winning is a loss
bicyclists and pedestrians are unwanted guests even when crossing a crosswalk. even in suburban neighborhoods where kids are going to school or trying to play outside. just completely backwards.
