At 6pm, struggling to find help, I said fuck it, I’m going to go get him myself. I bought the last flight to Austin, got his passport from his wife, and was at the SkyClub in under an hour (MSP!). I arrived in Austin, rented a car, and drove in the rain for an hour to the home of PAC-12 Texas State.
Alright, I’m home now so here’s the Norm update. Yesterday at 4pm, I got a text from a family I’ve been helping who had a loved one abducted a couple of days after Renée Good’s murder. This was the family that Norm Nation kept from being evicted (and you delivered). ICE had released their loved one.
We spent the night at a hotel I’d booked using points, and this morning I took him to Walmart to buy some clothes and toiletries so he could clean up a bit. He was released in the work clothes from when he was detained 3 months ago. We also got some fire breakfast tacos (h/t @coltonbmc.bsky.social).
California’s Gun Safety Laws Work Overall firearm-related mortality rate California, rest of U.S.
CA has achieved something genuinely historic.
In recent years, CA became safer from gun violence than any other time on record.
This progress was not an accident. It was the result of a sustained commitment to gun violence prevention policies and investments.
We cannot lose momentum now.
Also...I haven't finished watching the full first season of "The Miniature Wife" on Peacock, but I want to have some conversations about certain scenes when I am done. On this topic.
Huge win for ICE raid trackers!
Federal judge ruled Trump officials illegally pressured tech companies to silence tracking groups. The First Amendment won.

Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex X.com In a world wounded by arrogance, people hunger and thirst for justice. We must encourage those who believe in peace and dare to engage in "countercurrent" politics, which focus on the common good. What is urgently needed is the courage of new visions and an educational pact that gives young people space and trust. #ApostolicJourney #EquatorialGuinea vatican.va/content/leo-xi... 8:31 AM • 4/21/26 • 142K Views
Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex X.com The rapid technological evolution we are witnessing has accelerated speculative behavior in search of raw materials. This shift seems to overshadow fundamental imperatives such as the safeguarding of creation, the rights of local communities, the dignity of labor, and the protection of public health. I thus renew the appeal of Pope Francis, who passed away exactly one year ago: "Today we also have to say 'thou shalt not' to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills." 8:31 AM • 4/21/26 • 32K Views
Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex X.com Even more than in the past, it is clear today that the proliferation of armed conflicts is often driven by the exploitation of oil and mineral deposits, with no regard for international law or the self-determination of peoples. 8:31 AM • 4/21/26 • 58K Views
Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex X.com Without a change of direction in the assumption of political responsibility, and without respect for institutions and international agreements, humanity's destiny risks being tragically compromised. God does not want this. His holy Name must not be profaned by the desire for domination, arrogance, or discrimination. Above all, it must never be invoked to justify death-dealing choices and actions. 8:31 AM • 4/21/26 • 57K Views

Why am I not reading columns (and editorials) like this in the U.S. press? Even our pundits are cowards. 1/2 www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...

Solar's growth from 2024 to 2025 was basically the highest growth of anything ever, with the exception of coal's post-covid rebound which I think you'll agree kinda doesn't really count

RIP Melissa Hortman. Photo of the House Chambers at the Minnesota Capitol taken April 21, 2026. Melissa is remembered.
"Holy Fuck, the cars."
Is one of the major public health crises afflicting America.
Trump: "I do not want to extend the ceasefire." Kinda wish Congress would do its duty and not abdicate everything to a lunatic.

Delta Air Lines, who likely flew nearly all of these kiddos out of MSP, could publicly condemn this and end the practice tomorrow, as the airlines did in 2018 with family separation, but it’s easier to stay silent.
"That's the way war goes, right?"
"By refusing to hold officers liable for violating rights unless other officers have previously been held liable in identical circumstances, the Court’s qualified immunity jurisprudence effectively nullifies those rights altogether."
They get to tell their story their way without it being chopped up and taken out of context. They can have editors and attorneys read it before publication. They might even get some money. If they talk to a reporter, they may get instantly sued and their words might be twisted or distorted.
While there are reporters who hold info for books, I think a parallel problem is when sources, witnesses, victims, and involved players hold out from the press for books. Not as a defense but a possible explanation: sources probably have better legal protection and something to gain with a book...
The world is entering an era of “global water bankruptcy.” This is catastrophic and must be addressed head-on. And stop using AI. The water it consumes would be cause for alarm in the best of times, but where we are now, it’s unsustainable.

Fascinating find of the text of the Iliad in a Roman-era Egyptian mummy.
Even more interesting that the Catalogue of Ships was their go-to excerpt.

Rep. Emmer attacked Osseo schools today for adding a prayer room + foot-washing stations, invoking "Somali gang violence" with no cited incident.
Then we looked at where Emmer went to school.
It's almost like clerking for a justice who actively suppressed minority votes in Arizona, and then eviscerating the Voting Rights Act yourself!
