But also, I don’t fly anymore unless absolutely necessary. I thrift. Compost. Transport is mainly Ebike or my EV when needed. solar panels on my roof. Eat little meat. Commune with trees at every possible chance. Yes, I’m privileged—especially the EV and solar—VERY expensive

On this #earthday I’m going to be an American and celebrate replacing the transformer on my power recliner rather than just buying a whole new chair.

No left or liberal ideas are being applied in state policy in Ohio. It’s Ohio—gerrymandered in favor of conservatives who have been in power for 20+ years. Public universities were forced to close lgbtq, Black, and women’s centers because…?

Indeed. Women have vast amounts of evidence that they are capable leaders. But as always, for some, that’s not enough to change their thinking.

Yes. Funding is not distributed proportional to the societal impact, like in general.

The broader concept that there is any identity-based discrimination going on—if they admit that, they have to release their entire worldview and that makes them uncomfortable. They try to eliminate it through outlawing particular words/ideas. Trump already did it at the federal level.

My stance is that if someone is in a life where they are asking for money—scam or not—they need help.

Bingo! Moderate in America doesn’t think women can lead.

Nah. It might be harrowing, but do it. I think I can walk anywhere!

BEST state motto, my home state 😊 but of course, being from SW VA, I can’t celebrate too much.

I’m from Roanoke. Just read Paper Girl by Beth Macy and got a sense that, at least Roanoke City, was progressive… but it’s not blue in this instance. Disappointing. And I take back all my hatefulness towards NOVA—taught to me by my republican family.

Not funny, but I just thought of the recent self help book ā€œLet them.ā€

Well. The Ohio legislature doesn’t think there is any such thing as racial discrimination—especially systemic. They don’t want concept to be mentioned.

None of this is a thing in small towns. No advance purchase. No assigned seats. Tickets and snacks add up to about $15. Theater never crowded.

Well dang, you both have excellent points

Yes I wonder if it has been enlisted people asking to not get vaccinated or if they just decided to stop making it a rule because they are evil and badly misinformed.

And also a very real history of medical abuse, especially when it coms to racialized people and disabled people.

But obviously, get ALL the vaccines. Please. It keeps the immunocompromised like me able to participate in society.

Agree! My 3rd one (in 7 years) is on the way. My old one completely fell apart in unrepairable ways, but I RODE that thing! This new one folds in half for easy storage.

As someone with a dynamic disability, they are life savers. I can always use an ebike to get where I’m going, even when my body is like ā€œnope.ā€ My beef is yelling on your left! on your left! …and people not moving over. Noise canceling headphones—which generally, I love those too.

Two doctor’s appointments this fine 4/20. One office is restorative and healing and beautiful. The other one put this image up on its website to show the space. I’m not looking forward to the blue chair under the fluorescents. #fourtwenty #cannabis

The whole eval was clearly politically motivated—to make sure the university is in line with conservative values. Less interest in actual learning. Student evals are mostly trash anyway, but this is truly nonsense/useless compliance to the conservative overlords unable to comprehend free thought.

I felt pressure to say yes because woe to the faculty member that gets flagged as being ā€œbiased.ā€ This question exists because the clowns in the Ohio statehouse are killing public universities. My yes is also true because nothing false was presented. But it sure would make old white men upset.

I’m doing an online #MSW and the instructor eval has this question: ā€œDoes the faculty member create a classroom atmosphere free of political, racial, gender, and religious bias?ā€

Um, this is social work— we basically spent a semester discussing the ways the US’s systems are oppressive.

That makes such a huge difference. Our national conference is like 20k people always in a huge sprawling conference center and just…gross.

I have a paper that’s been submitted to four journals. 3 got back to me with a reject in 1-2 weeks. The 4th took three months. I had put off even trying that journal knowing it was a slow one, but it was the best fit for the article. I have two other pubs in it that took nearly 2 years. Wtf.

That is the good part for sure! I hate being in hotels and hotel conference rooms though. Is this one in a good location?
