Wanda Why Aren’t You Dead | abitchislive Get more from abitchislive on Patreon

I recently discovered Wanda Coleman and was literally saved by her poems. She survived so much and still managed to do her thing. I'm both angry that no one exposed me to her poems sooner, and grateful to have finally found her.

In the Tradition | abitchislive Get more from abitchislive on Patreon

Flipped through my notebook and found this today, and was reminded that I come from a people who have survived and thrived even in the most terrible situations. If my ancestors survived that then I can survive this.

For the longest time when therapists would ask me what id say to my childhoodself, id say that i would smother her, because it felt like there was nothing i could do to save her. Sometimes I still feel that way.

Hand written poem:

must I replace god
now that I’ve killed him
should I obey the stars
or the sun or the wind
shaking the individual hairs on my skin
in soe divine frequency
I met a woman who said
“the spirit told her”
and I wanted to ask
which spirit and how
do you know its here
for your good. I am
against god in all
his many feathered coats
I cant won’t be tricked
into obedience
or bent knee

I’m still not over the fact that the government tried to starve my poor disabled ass. Like I’m not surprised but it’s still a lil terrifying/traumatic.

Anyways—it’s a great time to be vulnerable af.

Instead of admitting this is what their ancestors participated in.

This is appalling. As I've said before, giving DL control of an annual anthology for 35 years was a mistake. BAP is a deeply reactionary project thru which DL launders his ideology (& ego!) via a rotating cast of "ecumenical" editors. It's an unequivocal good that this year's edition is the last.

Ok so in case yall missed the memo like I did. David Lehman, series editor of Best American Poetry is a Zionist ass. Literally feel embarrassed that I wound up in this situation. I was literally the only person of color in a room of 50+ people. It was terrifying.

The way that “anything” is actually terrifying—

Every day we are reminded that “anything can be” includes all the violences of the state and others who want to keep people under their thumb.

It’s increasingly hard to believe that good can be too but the other choice is despair so…
