I suspect of the aspects of nationalism that makes it such a critical innovation of modernity is that it allows one to bridge the gap between democracy and the state. If we were to just take democracy in its greek form its blatently incompatible with any community significantly larger than a city.

I tend to default to it being a lot less special than that. Israeli is an ethonationalist state. It is fascist and a lot of its population is fascist. It is not weird for an ethonationalists to hate stuff associated with others. The similarity are because the goals are the same.

I need to be more accountable but it's so hard to actually do that. Since I'm struggling instead of trying to be accountable to myself and others, I have the impulse that just hide the struggle. It is funny how it forms a reinforcing loop.

I am struggling to keep up because I am struggling to schedule my life well. I need to manage my time better but I am not. I am struggling to complete all the work I need to do for my classes because of this. And because I am perceiving myself as behind. I'm not reaching out for help

The power of labeling it an evil technology is that helps with coming up with an easy to imagine solution to the current problems. There is a very common fantasy of solving the problems of the world by returning to how the world used to be. Not even considering if that is desirable its not possible

Like the butlerian jihad was a total to justify why the world of done is so static and ready for change. It was not this is a good thing.

I think it's notable that it's stuff like theft that gets focused on more than State surveillance or power usage because it challenges their economic position as service workers and makes them feel less special.

Like focusing on power consumption and CO2 is probably much better then water. And that power is mostly used in the training not using an AI locally. Also I really dislike the focus on copyright and how it is stealing peoples work instead of what the ai can be used for.

It is really frustrating that people are seeing that example and actually thinking it is a good point. It is particularly annoying that most of the arguments against it are misinformation or bad premises

AI is already has greatly simplified the process of automating the many simple repetitive tasks in manufacturing and robotics. A lot of conversations around AI seem to be not really based in the technology but about thinking it is a sin or holy to use ai which is a very silly way of approaching it.

Though I would not describe social anxiety as fear but more like terror. Fear so strong it makes taking action impossible.

It is funny how most people think of neoliberalism as braking the US but in a lot of ways it saved it. Now I do think neoliberalism has run its course in the US and it has yet to find a new way to reinvent itself.

There's goona be a point soon i think where the US is going to have choose between either massively rising the investment rate (which will absolutely squeeze the capitalist class) or accept a massively lower standard of living,
