I try, but clearly fall short!
But I understand your reasons, so I'll try harder.
On the last NYTimes bestseller list of the year, arguably the most competitive, THE GALES OF NOVEMBER: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald hit #3 (six weeks in a row, eight total) -- ahead of famous folks who have no idea who I am.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

108 years ago today, at 9:04:35 am, a ship carrying 6 million pounds of high explosives headed to the Great War accidentally exploded in Halifax, creating the biggest manmade explosion until the A-Bomb. You can read about it in The Great Halifax Explosion. johnubacon.com/books/

When you look at the storm data from yesterday and today, I can guarantee you two things: 50 years ago, commercial ships would still be sailing, and yesterday, none of them were. That's one of the byproducts of the Fitzgerald tragedy. (4/4)
P. 372: "The most eye-opening outcome of all these reforms: In the half century since the Edmund Fitzgerald went under, not one commercial ship has sunk on the Great Lakes...The families are acutely aware [of it], and they justly take pride in that fact." (3/4)
But after the Edmund Fitzgerald went down on November 10, 1975, the complacent shipping industry woke up. They got serious about forecasting, communicating the information to the captains, and not least, common sense. (2/4)
Two unbelievable statistics from The Gales of November:
P. 14: "Between 1875 and 1975 alone, the Great Lakes claimed at least 6,000 ships... plus a minimum of 30,000 sailors -- an average of one shipwreck per week, and nearly one casualty a day, every day, for a century." (1/4)
The Smithsonian Magazine just named THE GALES OF NOVEMBER: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the Top 10 history books of 2025. Thank you!

And let me add, which people from Twitter know: I'm happy to engage with anyone who knows how to disagree without being disagreeable. But some folks just aren't willing or able to do so. It's a better world when they do!
After a silly exchange with a sarcastic, rude, know-it-all who won't sign his name -- Uncivilservice, I believe, was the handle -- in which I refuted his point with facts, naturally he blocks me, only proving my point about keyboard cowards.
Have a nice day.
And you should have read the book, because I did.
Several, in fact, from the NWS, the NOAA, UM's Naval Architecture school, and the founder of Michigan Tech's Great Lakes Research Center
Also, tough guy, sign your name. I do every time.
Have a nice day.
I can't see you at all, because you're hiding.
