Medical breakthroughs in 2025 ... and a happy new year.

New post!

There was a lot of innovation in medicine and biomedical research this year, and I've tried to summarize the biggest ones in this blogpost.

Medical breakthroughs in 2025. Plus a serious note at the end.

“Our next generation of researchers are now poised on the edge of this cliff, not knowing if there’s going to be a bridge that’s going to get them to the other side, or if this is it”

Musk and Trump are blowing up science careers for every STEM student.

As much as I’ve loved so many of the #StandUpForScience signs, this one is my favourite (but what else would you expect from Ms Macrophage).

At the Boston StandUpForScience rally today. We had at least 1500 people, probably more.

It was inspiring to see people turn out for @standupforscience.bsky.social in Boston, to hear amazing speakers, and connect with scientists and supporters. I hope this will turn into a more enduring movement to meet the challenges of the moment.

I'll be speaking and singing if that is any inducement, including:

(sung to the tune of "This Land is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie)

Stand up for science-
No time for silence!
New cures for cancers-
We need more answers.
Hear our entreaties-
Cure diabetes.
Science is good for you and me!

Hi #medsky! I'm a rheumatology fellow interested in infections and autoimmunity. I'm studying how autoimmunity starts and what is going on with post-viral syndromes, and am hoping to share some book recs in addition to medicine/science tips!

A fun fact about me is that I helped Francis Ford Coppola wrap Christmas presents to director friends and was a babysitter for Sofia Coppola while living in Paris.

Hello world! I'm a rheumatology fellow at Brigham in Boston trying to understand viruses and autoimmunity. Other interests include language, music, health policy, global health, medical education, and more. I miss the heyday of science and medical Twitter. Excited to see how this space works out!
