Take a look at the CNN sourcing and fact-checking on their Swalwell article. Look at how many extra people they contacted in order to corroborate claims. They viewed screenshots, called parents/husbands/friends/colleagues. They viewed TV footage and interviews, & more. Two things worth pointing out:

Where you compared Swalwell's sexual misconduct to killing Venezuelan fishermen, to defend Swalwell?
That was when I blocked you.
Try reading the rest of what I said.
(And no I do not think his apology is sufficient or accurate, believe women)
Sexual relationships with women in their 20s who want to get involved in politics, when you're in Congress and almost twice their age, is, even in the BEST of bad circumstances, INCREDIBLY problematic. The power dynamics! Even his apology, if accepted, is sufficient for him to need to withdraw.
The Democratic Party needs to not be the party of predators. The GOP is right there if you want sexually coercive monsters in charge. Fuck your parasocial relations with politicians--all of them who engage in this behavior need to go.
He needs to withdraw and retire REGARDLESS of the verdict, because if the QUESTIONS made a current staffer resign? Come on y'all.
And then the legal system should be in play.
Okay, I'm not going to snark. But I will use this to illustrate a logic issue.
1. The police have traditionally proven to not be the best advocates when it comes to issues of sexual violence.
2. ESPECIALLY when it comes to involving politicians or individuals in power.
I think a lot of people here are way underestimating how difficult it is to break a sexual abuse story *even when everybody kind of knows it* unless you can get victims on record. it is very, very hard.
OH MY GOD YES
Swalwell needs to withdraw and retire.
David Simon said it best
Not a think! They know nothing!
This is "Eric Swalwell might be forced to resign from Congress ahead of redistricting" bad

I love that so much, and if I had access to a research library this would be perfection. I'll think about how to do a modified version for my school's resources!
Shocking no one, sadly. I'm so sorry Victor, this kind of stuff is enraging enough from elsewhere in the state, I can't imagine how you feel.
It's nightmare fodder, unfortunately.
In addition to everything else: triumphal arches require a triumph. All Trump does is lose.
Oh man, do you have a link to the source?
Oh, thank you so very much, it is so greatly appreciated!
I wrote a piece on what I found most fascinating about the Pentagon-Vatican rumors, and that's how it illuminates the problem of Catholic integralism in the far right. Give it a read @religiondispatches.org !

NEW: Someone allegedly threw a molotov cocktail at Sam Altman's house then went to OpenAI headquarters to make threats at workers. @lmatsakis.bsky.social and Maxwell Zeff with the scoop: www.wired.com/story/sam-al...
Most coming of age movies should have been therapy sessions. Most biopics shouldn't have been made at all.
Maybe Frazer's God against the Revolution? Or maybe Chainbreaker's memoir?
I think I'm going to assign Crouch's Nobility Lost and Witgen's An Infinity of Nations again. I'll work on breaking down readings more, given them some structure for their notes, but I like complicated, rich texts, damn it.
For the Revolution, though?
Oooooh I like this, going to get a copy and read through. Thank you!
Data centers in Dubai seem to have been a mistake for more reasons than murdering the planet, news at 10. *sigh*
They don't want to read.
