There's a lot of details that can be eek'd out of old meshes and textures in games. The material system in Surreal 98 tries to guess at what roughness, specular and normal map values might make sense for a given texture, with parameters for tweaking.

I can't stop listening to this. There's something deeply engrossing about this game, yet at the same time, it's also kinda bad.

You can feel the love / effort put into the game, the developers really cared about atmosphere, interactivity, depth of simulation.
