The inspiration for the static-looking background in this set is from the 1980 film Altered States. It's a classic that kind of defies classification; New Age, SciFi, Horror, with heavy religious references & some wild special effects. I highly recommend it if you're looking for something to watch.

The background had always been distracting in ways that I couldn't get around back then but now, 5+ years later, inspiration struck.

I love using glass orbs and such in shoots, but far too often it seems that they catch enough of the environment to be distracting.

Fortunately, that was not the case here.

The original backdrop was a plastic sheet that was meant to go to pure white when a set of strobes fired. Since I was doing BTS coverage, I wasn't connected to the strobes & the plastic was clearly visible. I didn't want to just photoshop it out, so I waited until I found a more creative solution.
