I left ABD and have never really regretted it. It became clear to me that while I love academics, the industry of the academy was not a good fit for me, and I've had a very successful career making entertainment instead.

"Did you see this awful thing someone you've never heard of said on Twitter?!?" No, I didn't, that's why I'm not on Twitter, stop doing this.
It's such an easy win, I wonder if they set it up this way. Push the price point out of reason, then let the new CEO cut it back while introducing ads.
It's not going to push their hardware installs, that's for sure.
Because you said some smart stuff and you know games. I want to have more interactions across that venn diagram.
Couldn't we just, like, pay for healthcare or something?
The thing that shocked me about the AVP was how much it resembled the Magic Leap One.
There are just certain fundamental limits that everyone is running into with the physics - power, resolution, heat dissipation, form factor.
There's no magic wand. The laws of physics can only take this so far.
Aw, man - that's a good one, and I can't make it. Let's pick it up on Friday.
Still three weeks left to get your submissions in! I've already gotten a many responses which is good, but unfortunately they echo what I feared (and sadly expected): Black Game Developers are being hit harder on practically *all* fronts despite making up a smaller portion of the industry.
#93, I'm just in awe. That's a crazy number of hours of design insight.
One must imagine Sisyphus happy
I've been working on building maps for Thick As Thieves for the past few years. It's an extremely small team and I'm very proud of what we've been able to accomplish!
The introduction to the world of TaT will be out May 20th
Surprised how many American writers are on the list
Depends on what advanced means. Electricity isn’t hard to generate if you know what you’re doing. You could maybe even do radio.
It's nice to know that however self-indulgent I am as a writer, there is always someone who is more so.
Spot-on. Game development is a team sport - anyone who's pretending it's not is misrepresenting what they've done.
Especially designers / production / management - if you're taking credit for the game, acknowledge that you didn't make it by yourself.
Got a couple hours in tonight - congratulations!
This totally messed me up because I missed the context in the OP and my brain was like “Hey, I know this. Why do I know this?”
Too early for random Beowulf translations.
Well done, though.
I don't think people appreciate the extent to which this is happening now. The daily briefing is now video. It's clips of people saying how awesome he is and how everything he's doing is working.
It's also Fox News.
Every game that ships is a fucking miracle. Good luck with DD!
Magyar’s speech is powered. From a contact in the audience: “He’s basically just asked all the puppets, all the supreme justices, all the heads of media, all the heads of the ministries to leave their jobs tomorrow and not wait to be fired.”
I keep seeing people talk about trends with these graphs that very clearly have inflection points in 2016 and 2020.
Like, if the trends have shifted I would start with COVID and the rise of American Fascism.
I feel like I spent a lot of today cleaning things up. Trimmed my beard and mustache, got a haircut (my wife deserves credit for that one), cleaned up my nails.
Then went outside and did the same thing for the yard - pulling weeds, clearing out the dead grass trying to take over the irises.
It really calls attention for me to how “values” is out of alignment with the other categories.
I believe I can share values with someone who does not speak my language, share my religious beliefs or history or culture.
Assuming you can’t is so weird.
It’s never too late for grilled cheese…
You can have democracy or you can have unregulated capitalism.
You can't have both.
Did you work on Underworld? I had no idea you were at Looking Glass until I went looking
Wieners. You could have picked anything.
On behalf of Coloradans, sorry about the Rockies. It's a lovely stadium. If you can afford it.
I love pulling together a prototyping kit!
It also looks incredibly heavy - like you would have to get out of bed, move it into position, then slide back under it as you got back into bed.
It's the opposite of convenient.
2 days just really isn't enough to celebrate all the varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches...
