A4 I think making it clear to students that you are approachable to ask questions or requests is important. Circulating the classroom and checking in with each desk clusters, as well as students you know need extra support, helps facilitates this. #TeacherEd #SpEd
halesaurus, I agree with about not criticizing a student for not knowing something. I try very hard to spin a wrong answer into a positive of what they have learned. Otherwise, I often mention that the reason we are in school is to learn, thus it is fine not to know something. #TeacherEd #SpEd
A3.2 The use of speech to tech, which transcribes what is said as a response, has also proved to be beneficial for this student. #TeacherEd #SpEd
A3 It is a matter of finding the perfect match between skills and activity that helps demonstrate knowledge. I have one student who has motor skill problem with writing sentences. Meanwhile, he can draw excellent depictions of the recently covered Social Studies content. #TeacherEd #SpEd
Mr. Orlando, you are not alone. As I mentioned in my response to Q1, I have experienced this same difficulty myself. #TeacherEd #SpEd
Hannah, I have done this for a while now with tests. Where the general education students might have short answer questions to write, the special education students will have multiple choice. Like you mentioned, it does not change them demonstrating what they have learned. #TeacherEd #SpEd
A2.2 I try to keep the classroom as focused as possible on the task at hand so an ADHD student does not become distracted or overstimulated. Seating placement towards the front of the classroom also helps with achieving this goal. #TeacherEd #SpEd
A2: I try to provide visuals related to the Social Studies topics we are covering as often and as early as possible in a unit or lesson. I also try to be as clear as possible with directions and break them down as much as possible. #TeacherEd #SpEd
I have learned this school year how to implement graphic organizers, sentence stems, anchor charts, having different versions of the same assignments, making sure students who need text read or written for them get the assistance they need and deserve. #TeacherEd #SpEd
This is especially true of class periods when more than half of the students are special ed. #TeacherEd #SpEd
Some of my smartest students are special ed. What I have found challenging as a new teacher, with no background in special education, is modifying lessons sufficiently enough to meet all the different learning needs. #TeacherEd #SpEd
