Insect flight paths, 20 April 2026.
I enjoy watching their flight paths around the garden and it's always interesting (to me, at least) to see the final Pollockettes pattern created.

A great spotted woodpecker clinging to a lichen-covered branch. The woodpecker is mid-peck creating a blur of motion around the birds head.
Please be aware that our website will be down this morning for some planned maintenance work. It should be back to normal by midday for all your usual wildlife browsing.

A white painted cottage in twilight
The delightful C18th Grade II listed cottage on Skokholm at twilight last night.
This was where Ronald Lockley set up the first bird observatory in the 1920s. It has since been immaculately restored by volunteers 👌
Excellent read, many thanks.

Burning trees for energy is not carbon-neutral!
- Burning trees emits more CO2 per unit energy than fossil fuels
- Harvesting trees for energy releases carbon that would otherwise have remained stored in the forest
- It often takes decades for CO2 from burning to be re-absorbed by new tree growth
Used to have a port?!
That's my googling tomorrow morning sorted : )
