“Your excuses for why Dems can’t do anything are hollow!” vs “lmao you expect my own organization to have any internal discipline whatsoever?”

It’s kinda funny how Dems have the rep (skewered in The Good Place) for having endless meetings and blue ribbon commissions and stuff, when DSA is like “listen shitlibs our bylaws say we CAN’T stop the IC but we recently had a convention and agreed on some addenda to sideline them a little.”

"His general platform is simpatico with progressives"

Because he copied/pasted shit onto his website lmao.

"this sort of stuff happens in crises"

This is automatically taking the responsibility off of the shoulders of everyone supporting the Nazi Tattoo Guy.

Wild.

Wow, that's wild, it's incredible that you can see the future so clearly! /s

I absolutely doubt that Platner was the only candidate progressives could find, Platner just knows a bunch of the progressive bros like Ryan Grim by being their "bartender".

Just wait until AOC gets the same treatment if she ever decides to make a play for party leadership.

I think it’s a very standard vocal minority situation. and I account for the polling by saying there‘s a big difference between general anxiety (widespread) and active dislike or avoidance in everyday use (common but a lot less than general anxiety)

the way I would put it is: it’s wrong to conclude from the (undeniable) fact that some people hate LLMs in some contexts that most people hate LLMs in most contexts, and from the fact that some people have been forced to use them that most people have

As someone ACTUALLY living in a conservative rural area of a swing state, this dude is full of it, and I'm so mad he turned off comments.

I have so, so many thoughts, but they boil down to "no, no they don't, you are wrong."

👇I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we find out that Republicans (or at least people who really hate Democrats and don't ID as R) sought to push Platner, knowing progressives and similar would completely eat it up. Hook, line and sinker.

I generally like Mamdani and his mode of politics! I would perhaps quibble with the mayor of New York fucking city being an example of what would work in ‘rural America’, however.

Some of them have charm but too many Nazi tattoos

They'd just need to win a few & be competitive in half to attract a landslide of money for the next cycle. Aside from the problem of crafting a winning message, most of the self proclaimed rural socialists seem to be bereft of charm.

You can run a credible campaign for a House seat in a rural state legislature for $50,000. If socialists think they have some secret sauce to win over rural voters, the DSA could easily fund dozens of candidates for those seats.

What's your suggested strategy for dismantling the right-wing media ecosystem?

13 minutes ago 4 0 0 0

See, this is exactly the kind of thing that doesn't help. In a discussion about how Biden did good, concrete things that improved lives, but got no credit, you jump in and speak loudly about something unrelated to the good, concrete things he did that improved people's lives.

Yea! This is him announcing the ground breaking of a new semiconductor plant in Ohio due to CHIPS.

No one has heard about it!

Whenever people claim “Dems need to sell what they did!” I always bring up the is photo of Biden an McConnell celebrating infrastructure investments in Kentucky and NO ONE is aware this happened.

Because media and social media influencers don’t actually spread positive Dems news.

As far as I can tell, it was basically - "Here's a suitable figurehead we can prop up for our 'campaign consultancy group' (money-making scheme)."

Also if you don’t want to run for public office and you have ideas for your local Democratic Party committee, *join the committee and run for leadership roles in it*! These things are simply not closed institutions they’re right there

Legit think about how both Bernie and Warren endorsed him *and stuck with him* even now. 2016 me would have been devastated.

Democrats have flipped state legislatures where suburban districts went up for grabs. Rural seats are generally hostile to anyone running as a Democrat.

Heck, the DSA could easily fund credible candidates in a couple dozen state house seat in Arkansas if they wanted to show how it's done.

The weather underground murdered the first black school superintendent in the usa because he worked at a high school that was going to require ID. And they believed ID cards were fascist

The stuff she's reposting over there has bad vibes, and I kind of suspect that the reason she's not doing overt antisemitism herself instead of just retweeting people complaining about German speech laws is because she doesn't want to get herself deported from Germany.

having molly shah leave this place to go /back to x/ does not speak well to this site's long term prospects

having molly shah leave this place to go /back to x/ does not speak well to this site's long term prospects

This is a hilarious take, because she never stopped posting on X The Everything App, she just kept the grifting to this site and the retweeting posts complaining about Germany's antisemitism laws violating free speech to the Nazi site.

How do "leftists" who go on George Galloway's show feel about him having a Holocaust denier on who claims that Jews control the media and are responsible for war, pedophilia and Jeffrey Epstein, trans people, and drag queens, all while Galloway doesn't push back at all?

10 hours ago 66 13 6 1

Perhaps, but ultimately what feels good is up to the individual. The state can and should maximise the opportunity to do so for as many people, but I don't think it can or should try to maximise individual emotional satisfaction.

15 hours ago 10 1 1 1

The point of politics, at least of liberal/social democratic politics, isn't to make you "feel good", because frankly that it is impossible.

It is to liberate people from various forms of oppression-social, economic, political, etc, and allow them to live the lives they want.

Rural voters don't vote for who gives them goodies. They vote because of culture.

If a Dem does something that increases welfare, or builds a park, or whatever, they will decry it as socialism and stealing their money _even if they are the impoverished recipients_ of it.
