Crikey that's a good question. Maybe the Michelle chord? He's very fond of a minor 7 too.

The way he's playing the guitar, with those tricksy chord movements, is amazing. And you can definitely hear a psychedelic, as well as a Latin, influence. Weirdly it sounds to me like it could be on Innervisions.

Yeah I feel that what makes Uncanny good is people narrating their first hand experiences, so it loses something if it’s just Danny relating something that happened to someone else

The thing with that Geese story is you have to think of all the bands who had huge marketing budgets who got nowhere because no one liked their music. Ultimately the music connects with people. No one is being forced at gunpoint to listen to Geese (unless the album cover is a subliminal threat).

I’ve got a good theory about the latest Uncanny - none of it actually happened

Terrific gift from @danhancox.bsky.social – a 1996 issue of Select! It features an entire article about what bands from 1992 (‘the pre-Britpop era’s darkest hour’) are up to now. It was only 4 years ago. What are 2022 bands up to now?

Using Spotify is just as bad as using X, in some aspects, even more consequential: Spotify is actively killing music, not just exploiting musicians. All other streaming platforms are better, and have as wide a choice. Migrating your playlists is dead easy. Please leave that evil platform - now.

Kanye West being booked to headline Wireless Fest on all three nights feels like a major and utterly grim cultural shift. Ten years ago, a huge artist who recorded and released a tune called “Heil H*tler” would have gone to the wilderness and stayed there. But he has been welcomed back in through the front door. And this is on the heads of the festival organisers, each of whom should be publicly grilled about this choice. Indulgence of anti-Semitism is one of the early warning signs of the return of old horrors, and it doesn’t get more indulgent than this.

It was only when I worked it out on the guitar to teach it did I realise how subtly complex it is, really McCartney-esque. The verses are in 6/4 (or a bar of 4 and a bar of 2) for example, but you don't really notice. And then the way the chords shift under the harpsichord solo is total genius.

Brilliant stuff Andy. My personal fave CH song is English Trees. Do you know it? Absolutely heartbreaking. I feel like, in some way, it's about the drummer Paul Hester.
