The poem and recording of "I Have A Special Plan For This World" are personal treasures to me. They are Transcendent Art, and I can't believe I got to just chat with the two men behind them.

But we as stupid, brash, absurd 23 year olds got to talk with David Tibet and Thomas Ligotti, and they were both absolute dreams. Thinking about it legitimately makes me feel lucky to be alive.

We got on the phone and had a lovely conversation with Thomas Ligotti, who was smart and funny and liked our idea well enough to give it a casual blessing. We were young and dumb and couldn't quite pull the thing off, which is honestly one of the bigger regrets of my life.

I had to buy phone cards from the bodega down the street to call Tibet in England. We had a very delightful chat with him, he wanted to make sure we weren't Satanists. We convinced him our motives were pure, so he passed our info along to his friend Thomas. Soon, Ligotti reached out to talk to us.

We knew Current-93 had done a recording using the poem and that David Tibet was friends with Ligotti, so we found some business address for Current-93 and sent them an inquiry. David Tibet himself replied. He asked to call us and talk with us to make sure we were legit.

If you'll permit me, a story: over 20 years ago, right out of college, a buddy of mine and I were going to try to use Ligotti's poem "I Have A Special Plan for This World" as the basis for a theatrical horror show. We wanted to ask permission, but had no idea how to get a hold of the famous recluse.

LOVE the book and movies. When I got engaged to my wife, that year for Christmas I gifted her the box set of THE THIN MAN movies and said, "This is the template for a good marriage." We eventually named our kid Dashiell.

Joe Dante doesn't get his due. MATINEE is lovely, THE 'BURBS is legit a Top Ten comedy for me, INNERSPACE is a Thomas Family Classic, GREMLINS 1 & 2 are great...what a guy.

I have worked in comic books for 15 years, so I say this with some degree of authority: These people are comic book villains.

Perhaps a better analogy would be them complaining that roads don't make enough money so everything should be a privately owned toll road. That sounds crazy, and it is, and that's basically the same argument they're trying to make with the post office.

And yes, I'm aware the people who want to shut down the USPS are almost all the people who would be absolutely fine shutting down food pantries, but I just think it should be clear they're hiding behind "economics" when in reality it's the same shitty impulse as trying to let people starve.

USPS is "losing money" because people need and use it. The money allocated to it being used so handily does not mean it's broken, it means it's working. This is like saying you need to shut down a food pantry because all the food is gone. No. Wrong. That means you need more food.
