My Strange Dysphoria Growing up in India, I never questioned my gender. When I moved to the U.S. at 18, I began to feel increasingly disconnected from my body.

I read this, and it was a truly lovely, personal essay. www.vulture.com/article/supr...

That's very kind of you to say, Zach! I very much appreciate it. And she was as wonderful as I hoped she would be. Very thoughtful.

Right?! I knew she could sing and then I saw this video and it truly blew me away.

Review: Hacks, "Number One Fan" | Season 5, Episode 2 Never underestimate the Little Debbies

I also wrote about this week's episode of Hacks, which is a love letter to Little Debbies. One scene made me cry a lot, another cry laughing. I love this show (Ann Dowd is brilliant as per) www.episodicmedium.tv/review-hacks...

This is unsurprisingly great from both a process nerd angle and the specifics questions Kathryn asks. Choosing to eat lunch at the same time as Reading was a mistake on my part though.

Review: The Pitt, "9:00 PM" | Season 2, Episode 15 The shift ends on an unexpected and satisfying note

It has been a pleasure digging into every episode of The Pitt this season over at Episodic Medium, and the conversation in the comments often makes me reconsider my interpretation. Thanks, @memles.bsky.social for creating a safe and lively space to chat TV www.episodicmedium.tv/review-the-p...

“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.

“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”

Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

Beef season 2's ruthless targeting of the music tastes of elder millennials is dead on accurate but also savage. Never have the words "Hot Chip" been uttered more in a mainstream television show.

a young man in a leather jacket is leaning against a locker . Alt: a young man in a leather jacket is leaning against a locker .

The new season of Beef on Netflix is packed with great performances, but the real stand-out is Charles Melton who is sneakily hilarious in every single scene, romantic, and heartbreaking, proving once again that the Riverdale cast remains undefeated.

Anyway, that is enough of me being all personal on the main. Beef definitely dredged up some big feelings.

Ahhh, summer 2023, what a time that was. Best thing was thinking I had appendicitis and crying at the hospital because I thought it was going to fuck up an interview with Rachel Brosnahan that took weeks to schedule. Got that interview done, and she was wonderful.

The NHS is amazing, and I am so glad we have it (especially hearing the eye-watering figures in Beef). I did have to wait four months for surgery, and I never want to go through that level of discomfort again (my surgeon told me the cyst was the size of a basketball when it was removed).

This season of Beef is great/stressful. The latter more so knowing exactly what it is like to discover an ovarian cyst (that was 21cm when discovered and then grew before surgery) due to a twisted ovary and having to go through a similar procedure as one of the main characters.

Happy Margo's Gor Money Troubles Day! This is one of my fave shows of the year so far that made me laugh and cry. Incredible performance, and while this selection of images is limited, the costumes (designed by Mirren Gordon-Crozier) are a stunning mix of lived in styles and fantasy moments.
