One way to work around the administrative overhead of too many grants is to apply for larger pots of money but do it collaboratively with more senior professors who have experience. I personally didn't take any military or NIH funding, just NSF, industry, and foundations.

After selling his startup to IBM, this founder wants to bring ‘agentic memory’ to enterprise data Not everyone agrees on what an “AI agent” actually is, but they are all still the rage. At a broad level, these so-called “agents” promise to go several steps beyond a mere chatbot, making decisions and taking actions on people’s behalf. Some might help…

At least one item on his wishlist has been granted: Bluesky has decided to quadruple the size of its contract workforce of content moderators from 25 to 100, the company told Platformer. The move comes in response to Bluesky’s rapid growth since this month’s US presidential election, which triggered a fresh exodus of users away from Elon Musk’s X and over the weekend took the platform past 22 million total users.

Some news: amid rapid growth and some over-enforcement of its community guidelines, Bluesky trust and safety chief @aaron.bsky.team tells me the company will quadruple the size of its content moderation team www.platformer.news/bluesky-grow...

ChatGPT Defeated Doctors at Diagnosing Illness A small study found ChatGPT outdid human physicians when assessing medical case histories, even when those doctors were using a chatbot.

Turns out most of the drs who did have chatgpt didn't really use it. They treated it as a search engine. Also, drs were overly confident in their own intuitions.

Large Language Model Influence on Diagnostic Reasoning This randomized clinical trial evaluates the diagnostic performance of physicians with use of a large language model compared with conventional resources.

Really interesting new paper out of Stanford medicine. On a new set of previously unseen diagnoses, chatgpt scored an average of 90% + explained its reasoning. Doctors randomly assigned to use the chatbot got 76%. Those randomly assigned not to use it got 74%.

Maybe if it's about people who do relevant research you would still get more or less the same people but it wouldn't visibly group them by identity more by interest and what they talk about.

I want to create an incubator that funds atproto/bluesky experimental projects to the tune of $5k-$10k dev grants.

I am sorely tempted to call it “Chemtrails”, because it seeds the ATmosphere

Fairness definitions differ across groups! For white respondents, fairness = "proximity'' to assigned school. For Hispanic or Latino parents, fairness = "same rules'' for everyone. Cool work by @nilou.bsky.social + students
