The image was awesome, so I'm going to submit it to the Nikon Small World competition. BUT, now I need to come up with a title other than "tick sex." Suggestions?

Story time! Last fall, I pulled 5 ticks off the dog, threw them in a bag in the freezer. I brought them to work, and when I opened the bag, I only found 4 ticks. Decided I must have remembered wrong. Mounted them on the slide only to discover that two of them were "attached." 🀭

A meme that says at the top "Quantification without pilots", and at the bottom "not even once". In the middle is a circle with 4 wedges, one each for sample preparation, image acquisition, image analysis, and data interpretation. Arrows indicate the workflow should go in both directions, not just one!

Decided today at QI was for making dumb microscopy memes. Make sure to do your pilots before you do your final experiment!

@joachimgoedhart.bsky.social & #microscopy friends, we're using ymScarlet-i3. It's the best general purpose red FP we've tried in budding yeast. But in our hands it photobleaches really fast when exposed relatively low-intensity *488 nm* laser light (~20 W/cm^2). Have you seen this? Thoughts?

TIL I'm supposed to put notes on slides not for my use, but for others to read if they are not there. I haven't used notes in years because as an academic my slides are just there to keep me on track 😝

I have to admit, I needed a good laugh today. Apparently a hawk has been attacking people outside Northwest building at Harvard this week. πŸ˜‚
