Just curious. Personally I started with guitar and ended up playing the bass as well (because of recording).

Ended up jamming with other musicians as a bassists since they seem to not be as popular.

I'm partial to the classics (P and Jazz). You can play anything with them. The Fender standards are great but don't sleep on the Squire Classic Vibe. In the end, it's just best to try and see what not only feels and sounds best but also gets you excited to play it.
