Thank you so much! ☺️

Thank you Suze! It was very unexpected ☺️
#JSLHR researchers explore the often-complex dilemmas of diagnosing developmental language disorder (DLD), noting the potential of #DLD as a neurodevelopmental, multidimensional spectrum. https://on.asha.org/47NwCGu

I don’t know if I would have been more or less nervous presenting at #RCSLTConf25 if I’d known in advance that I had been awarded the RCSLT James Law Child Language Conference Prize! But what an honour! 💫🤩
What a privilege to be chairing two brilliant #RCSLTConf25 sessions today on:
⭐ Paediatric assessment and intervention with @vanigupta.bsky.social, Steph Scott and Dr Jenna Charlton
⭐ Working with people who stammer with Sarah Caughter and Dr Ronan Miller (and me)
The first paper from Shengfu’s PhD! A scoping review on recast dosage for children with #DLD. With increased attention to how much we do of what we do, this is an important contribution @ashajournals.bsky.social
Yes!! But in a world where we're rating every consumerist interaction (Uber, Yelp, Google) and liking/reacting to posts, it's hard not to unconsciously put more weight on the 'pleasing'/popularity side of things vs the learning!
Researchers map and summarize currently available evidence about optimal dosage of recasting for developmental language disorder.

I want to “like” my own post because this is so key to the tension between practice and research at the moment…. More thoughts later #SLPeeps
How do we define a successful therapy session? The child was happy and loved the activities? Or how they did on their goals? #bskySPEECHIES
It can feel creative but without a framework it risks becoming guess work #bskySPEECHIES
“Winging it” can often be driven by uncertainty or by habit #bskySPEECHIES
@lynn-williams.bsky.social talking about tailoring, mixing, or winging intervention approaches - pros and cons, talking about the potential risks and impact on treatment fidelity #bskySPEECHIES

This is one of my favourite and most-recommended books on Speech Sound Disorders:
Confirmation bias in search engines can impact what results one person gets via another - so “Googling” is also not enough; be sceptical of what you find on the internet and use critical thinking skills #bskySPEECHIES
Meanwhile - @lynn-williams.bsky.social asks how much clinical reasoning are you getting in a 30s social media clip - social media is valuable but it can’t be the ONLY thing you learn from #bskySPEECHIES
Forest-Jones et al. in prep - survey of where SLPs get their info: SOOO great to see what high numbers of SLPs engage in independent reading, attend CPD and conferences!! #bskySPEECHIES
Can we justify our choices: why we chose a specific analysis, target, intervention - and what supports our clinical rationale? Is there evidence?
Ensuring our decisions lead to meaningful change by implementing interventions with fidelity, monitoring progress and adjusting as required
Understanding WHY behind our assessment and intervention choices is key
It empowers SLPs to move beyond surface level strategies and tailor interventions
Clinical reasoning involves integrating theoretical knowledge, evidence, clinical experience and the unique needs of the client to develop effective intervention strategies - @lynn-williams.bsky.social
Clinical reasoning in practice is something I know many #SLPs are really keen to get “right” - but become nervous about because of wanting to get it “right”
Attending a CSU event online with @sharynnemcleod.bsky.social @lynn-williams.bsky.social - topic is Thinking in Action: Strengthening Clinical Reasoning. Thanks for the opportunity! #SLPeeps #SpeechPathology
Among other topics, Vol. 45, Issue 2 includes a letter from our president, introduces a new child language research repository, & as usual an overview of all the upcoming child language conferences. Many thanks to our editor, Dr. Angel Chan! Take a look today! www.childlanguage.org/latestbulletin

Feel free to share - our guide is appropriate for mental health professionals working with adults or children (it’s important to remember many children with language problems continue to have communication needs as adults)
And the adaptations asked for are usually small and low cost. Which makes it all the more frustrating.
A very robust 4 (or 3.5 days plus a tour of Malta) days of learning at #IALP2025 - this is fast becoming my favourite conference. 💫
Happy to hear your comments, feedback & questions. Otherwise see you next conference (current plans: Global TALES Symposium in Sept 2025, RCSLT in Nov 2025) ☺️
Assessment tools must be translated AND adapted to match language differences #IALP2025
Essential characteristics of bilingual aphasia assessment tools: psychometrically sound & standardised, time efficient & easy administration, need to incorporate both language comprehension & production, reading & writing assessment, cultural & linguistic considerations & bilingual eval #IALP2025
