Ever wondered how to make a character for a Basic Roleplaying (BRP) game? Wonder no longer. I walk through making a character for our upcoming grimdark fantasy game of muskets and magic, "Of Hearth & the Harrowing". Includes discussion of professions, skills, powers, passions, and personalities!
Ever wanted to learn more about Basic Roleplaying (BRP)? It is the system behind our upcoming grimdark fantasy TTRPG of Muskets and Magic, "Of Hearth & the Harrowing". This video gives you the basics of BRP and goes over our Character Sheet to help explain things.

In this video I go over the Mechanics of the Basic Roleplaying System (BRP). We built “Of Hearth & the Harrowing” on the system (though there were definitely modifications).
2049 words down. Its part of the starter adventure that will be in the core book and the quickstarter.
Ok, remixed the teaser to be vertical so I can natively post it on IG and FB later. That's the thing I HAD to do today (according to THE PLAN). Now its time to actually DO SOME WRITING!
All the digital marketing takes a tone of time, but at the end of the day I am a writer first. So let's write!
New teaser trailer is out!
The frontier is corrupted. What will you sacrifice to survive?
Build your hearth. Brave the wilds. Face the Harrowing.

A ruin drawing and colored by Erin Lamoreux. Sun shines through the clouds, and the ruin looks to be a cathedral with a graveyard in front of it.
New color version of this art piece by @fluffydumplin.bsky.social.
I really love this piece due to how well it fits the setting and the aesthetic.
Anyone that tells you creating an Indie TTRPG is easy is lying. It is a struggle. It's hard work, and you have to show up, day in and day out.
In my latest devlog I talk a bit about how I cope with that struggle, the things that I do to keep going, and stay motivated.
Recap in thread.

4. Continue Writing - even if its on the next thing.
Speaking of the next thing, in the video I talk about writing the next thing and what it is, giving some details. So check that out.
(4/4)
2. Get in art from artist I'm working with, @fluffydumplin.bsky.social is amazing and her work is amazing and I love working with her.
3. Playtest - it helps me stay motivated.
(3/4)
Of course I go into a lot more detail in the video, but its less than ten minutes long. Please check it out.
1. Do YouTube. Talk about the project, share it with people, hope they engage (its certainly a WIP).

Devlog 1 of our Indie TTRPG: "Of Hearth & the Harrowing"
The fantasy survival horror game is coming later this year from InCharacter Games. The game uses the Basic Universal Roleplaying Engine, by Chaosium that powers such hits as Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, Pendragon, and Dragonbane.
That's 1250 for the hour. I'll take it.
Working on the first 32 page hexcrawl/adventure site book for my indie TTRPG "Of Hearth & the Harrowing". It will be released near the core book. Its just about done with the rough draft, needs two and a half encounters written, then its off to editing.
<Comes back to announced word count written, sees typo in original post... dies a little inside>
Ahem, a little over half an hour in: 800 words written. Want to stop, going to power through to finish the hour.
Whose ready for an early morning writing sprint? This guy! Gotta get those words in somehow, and all weekend was building furniture, moving furniture, rearranging furniture, filming youtube, and moving and building more furniture.
Ok, on your marks, get so... write!
This week's video is about the indie TTRPG we are making: "Of Hearth & the Harrowing".
I go into a little about what the game is, and our progress in making it. Please check it out! Like/Subscribes really help.
If you have any questions, let me know. Perhaps I can make a video about that next!

New Blog Post: Creating Meaningful Downtime
Does your game's downtime feel like just minor connective tissue between adventures, devoid of story? Read a little bit about the Hearth Phase in "Of Hearth & the Harrowing" in this blog post about the upcoming indie TTRPG.
A group of heroes works around the settlement known as the Hearth. One carries a large bag and has wood strapped to his back in a barrel. Another carries a barrel, while the third has a shovel in hand.
In "Of Hearth & the Harrowing" there is always stuff to do around the Hearth. If heroes aren't too busy on expeditions out into the wilds to rescue survivors, how will they spend their time?
