So much false equivalence in media on gerrymandering in Texas vs California & Virginia. California and Virginia maps approved by the voters. That's a huge difference not enough people pointing out

Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “The Texas gerrymander freak out. What’s happening in Texas is not a threat to democracy.”
Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “Virginia plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss. The redistricting scheme was always a power grab by Democrats. Voters went along with it.”
The Washington Post Editorial Board was fine with Republicans gerrymandering in Texas.
But when Democrats responded in Virginia, it’s a “power grab” that “plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss.”
Listen, they are building concentration camps and threatening genocide against a country of 90 million people. There is not a single remotely legal tactic that is impermissible when it comes to stopping them.
every conservative political complaint comes back to "those people shouldn't count because they disagree with me"
"I was ABSOLUTELY told that the Democrats would be bringing knives to the gun fight. What the fuck are they doing bringing guns?" --a whole lot of Republicans looking at the results from Virginia right now
One big political divide is between people who believe germs cause disease and people who believe Those People cause disease. It was pretty evident right away during the pandemic
RFK Jr. just said that immigration is to blame for the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S., not him.
A reminder while Republicans bitch about Dems finishing the redistricting fight they started: they have full control of gov’t— they can pass a law banning gerrymandering any time they want. They won’t. Republicans aren’t mad gerrymandering exists; they’re mad that they’re not the only ones using it.
Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.
This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.
sucks that it’s come to this, but if congressional Republicans wanted to put up a national gerrymandering ban or multi member districts etc, it would pass *for sure*. until then fight fire with fire
DEl speedwagon EM @uhs...•51m X I loathe Spanberger as much as she loathes people like me but I do appreciate that she appears to be governing Virginia like Benjamin Butler governed the military dictatorship of Union-occupied New Orleans The Political HQ • @ThePolitica... • 1h € BREAKING F The Virginia Redistricting Amendment has passed. This changes Virginia's congressional maps from a 6-5 Democratic split to a 10- 1 Democratic split, representing a four-seat gain for Democrats.
the cool thing about being a progressive normielib is that I can just say “this is awesome” instead of doing a bunch of throat clearing about loathing Spanberger before I praise her for obliterating 4 Republican seats
The message of the Right reacting to Virginia is the same as the message of "2020 was rigged": no victory by anyone but us is ever legitimate. We are the only ones allowed to win.
These people are cartoon villains entitled to no respect and no trust. Rabid dogs.
lol imagine being on a submarine right now
Trump is considering a large bailout for a multibillionaire dictator while he cuts health care for 15 million Americans.
This is insane. The working families of the United States need help, not one of the richest families in the world.
This is horrific. I feel physically ill.

Breaking News: President Trump is said to be in talks to send Afghans who helped the U.S. war effort to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
HIRONO: The rising prices of energy -- is that something you didn't contemplate happening before the president declared his illegal war?
CHRIS WRIGHT: No. We knew exactly what would happen
HIRONO: It doesn't seem like it, because the president doesn't understand how to open the strait
He just gave away the whole game
Right: [reviles academia for generations, celebrates deportations for writing op-eds and protesting, dismantles departments it doesn’t like, enacts de jure speech codes]
Left: [is sometimes annoying and unserious]
Some Academics:
The real failure to look in the mirror is academics falling back on comfortable “we’re partly responsible because we enforced left wing orthodoxy“ thinking rather than the less comfortable truth that Trump/MAGA are bad faith actors who will only be satisfied with resegregated MAGA academies
They not only won’t cancel; they’ve handed the entire event over to the fascists.
Stephen Miller and Pete Hegseth are sitting at CBS’ table.
FCC’s Brendan Carr has actually been invited, while he’s trying to take away press freedoms.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, which is based in Montgomery, Alabama, was founded in 1971 and used civil litigation to fight white supremacist groups. The nonprofit has become a popular target among Republicans who see it as overly leftist and partisan.
This paragraph is a master class in media complicity in obfuscating the GOP’s racism.
Republicans don’t hate the SPLC because it is “overly leftist.” They hate it because white supremacists are their constituency and the SPLC points that out.
SPLC partisanship is incidental to antiracism.
Opposing white supremacy is a crime in Trump’s America.
This feels a lot like southern states persecuting the NAACP during Jim Crow.
Again: young people might not realize that this kind of repugnant racism was unacceptable to express publicly, *not that long ago*.
"The average IQ in Somalia hovers around 70, and that's the threshold for mentally handicapped ... they're a net drain on the society" -- even by MAGA standards, the unvarnished racism of this interview of Rep. Brandon Gill by Benny Johnson is breathtaking
KARL: Is Trump really prepared to go back to full-on war? Is he prepared to destroy every power plant & bridge?
WALTZ: Well, all options are on the table, absolutely. That's not a war crime
K: He's saying every bridge in the country. That's not a war crime?
W: That would be an escalatory ladder
MIKE WALTZ: It's disappointing the Russians and Chinese chose to side with Iran rather than our Gulf Arab allies
BRENNAN: And you still lifted sanctions on Russia
WALTZ: Yeah. Uh, you're going to see continued action this coming week. The entire world is united.
Back to the genocide threats.
The internet has shag carpeted our souls.
Zohran Mamdani on CBS — “Socialist politics can flourish anywhere, because there is only one majority in this country, and that is the working class. It’s time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what we’re doing, not in the appendix.”
America’s Mayor can’t miss.
